Topic: I hate shopping! How about you and why?

I especially hate shopping with girls, I think in general guys hate shopping cuz most malls are not geared for men. If I could find a mall that had my levi's 501's and a small array of good solid work shirts in two different colors, and they served me in a drive by counter, I could get most of my clothes shopping done in about 3 minutes. I don't want or need to spend six hours trying on under wear and a buddy with me to ask if they make me look sexy!! When my undies are full of holes, I know I am due for another six pack of fruit of the loom at my local Wal Mart, in and out. Mission accomplished and good for another six years with me undies and only cost me 5$. Now that is smart shopping and sound investment logic.
Whats your take?
Ladies, please chime in and inform me why we are not on the same page as you when it comes to this shopping phenomenon.

I remember when my children were young (5 of them, two years apart). I would get a sitter and make a trip to the store and fill my cart full of things I wanted. I was always broke, so I could not buy. After I filled the cart, I would take a trip through the store and put each item back...and go home. I got to go shopping, didn't spend a dime, and it gave me a few hours away from the kids...made me a better mom, I think.

I hate shopping, because it's a waste of time and money and time is money, so it's a double waste of money. I don't "shop", I "get". I can walk into a store and spend more time waiting in line to pay that getting the stuff I needed, then move on and do something productive with my time. I hate shopping with a passion. Grocery, furniture, clothing. Doesn't matter, I hate it. I try to do as much of it online as possible. It makes me tired and cranky to go.

claustrophobic. Small rooms with lots of people tend to make me a little nervous

In general I hate to shop. Shoes are the worst, I will be almost barefoot before going shoe shopping, clothes are a very close second which is why my clothes are mostly old, even the stuff I had to buy after weight lose is now over five years old. The only shopping I enjoy is for projects around the house so that is mostly hardware store shopping.

Might I smell a huge sexist generalization in this posters question??

Indeed they did. My doctor told me I needed to find a way to get out of the house without them at least once a week. When I shopped for them, of course they went with me. I even made trips to the country when the stress became bad, would park on a country road, get out of the car and scream till I got the frustration out. Sang to some tunes on the way home and was a happy camper when I got back to the kidsbigsmile

Not that I'm trying to be contrary or anything, but I love shopping, and I can do it for hours. Particularly a place like Borders, or a sporting goods store with a good selection of hockey equipment. But I could probably do a couple of hours in any decent Wal-Mart without suffering any adverse effects, as long as I don't stare directly at the customers.

As for the mall, it's really the ONLY place around here where I have any chance of seeing anyone even remotely appealing. That right there (and the old Ms. Pac-Man in the game room) makes for a worthwhile trip.

Oh I did that too, gas was almost affordable back then, I would put baby in his car seat and just drive and sing off key and feel so much better!

I was a single parent for ten year, so looked for cheap/free ways to have any time alone. I remember watching the dads come to pick up some of my son's friends for a night or a weekend and just wishing they would take my son too. Just a night off. Kudos to all of us who were single, or not, but broke and managed to raise happy, healthy kids! 30 years later my son and I are close which I count as my biggest blessing.

Kids are always happy when they can get something....and most don't care what it is...as long as they get it! So easy to please when they are smallbigsmile

On the other hand, went shopping for books for my 7 yr old boy, that was more fun, ended up buying a historical pop open book about the Titanic, can't wait to check it out with him. Also Rippleys beleive it or not 2010, lots of crazy pictures in there that will get him curious to want to read. So shopping for my son is way more fun. Who would of thought!!
