Im always confused by it, LMfAO, ROTL, ATM, WTF, I have not been educated on these terms yet, so i have hard time following coversations sometimes. I suppose when my kids get older they can help me understand.

I use abbreviations on my PS3...only because of the lack of a decent keyboard and putting letters in with a PS3 controller is both annoying and tedius most of the time. Aside from that I don't bother with it, I have a hard enough time reading it back on my PS3 much less in an email from a complete and random stranger.

I usually do it when I am using my small asssss phone keyboard......not so much on a pc..and never professionally..............

i do the same thing there fear with no key board on the ps3 using the controller its better to use abbreviations. i even do it in im's

I rarely use short cuts except for LOL and lately on here, lmao. Oh and brb comes in handy when instant messaging...life does happen and a brb actually seems polite compared to just disappearing mid conversation.

I write emails in the same letter form I was taught in grade school, salutation, body with paragraphs if need be and closing.

Although I am not a world class speller I have improved with effort and thank heaven for spell check! Spelling does count!

What really fkn annoys me is when people substitute letters, like 'is' becomes 'iz'. It's retarded.

I don't text and I don't use text-speak. Grammer and spelling are so bad these day and I believe that is because texting is more common among some people they don't observe and learn grammer and spelling. To me this is a litercy problem and a communication defect. When a person has grammer and spelling errors in real life situations to me it shows a lack of education and maturity.

get an Iphone...type two or three letters and it pops up words that will match and 90% of the time your word is right there. tap it and viola!

most words require no more than three 2-3 letters and you are done. it is creepy amazing.

Spell check always helps. Especially when you're talking about how bad spelling has become.

The worst part about these abbreviations are that they are really annoying exaggerations. For instance, when someone says something mildly funny, are you really laughing your *** off? And really, who literally rolls on the f***ing floor when they laugh. And how many lol's are really you laughing out loud even?

I do use lol once in a while, if something is actually funny. But, it does bug me when people add it to everything they write. I'll usually ask them what's so funny and they never have an answer.

The days of Old are past and gone along with Christmas card writing and Thank you notes that are not even taught to youth anymore. Along with the opening of doors pulling of chairs.....etc. I am sorry to say etiquette has flown out the window. For the record, I do teach my children these things, as well as, to say excuse me if you need to interrupt or be excused from the table etc.

I was talking more about text speak, such as using u instead of you and r instead of are and things like that. Not acronyms such as YMCA or CIA. I wasn't talking about the use of Mrs. or Mr. either. I'm sure you get my point.

Perhaps things are different where you are. I know many people who still send Christmas cards and thank you notes. As well as opening doors, as I do that all the time for people. So, those things are only gone if you let them be gone.
