It's definitely a good idea to advance yourself no matter what time of your life, but always try to back it up with any sort of experience as well. Unfortunately education isn't enough these days.

People should do whatever works for them. I have a BS in Information Technology and will eventually go back for a masters.

After college I took 7 yrs off school... not really planned just things that happened, traveled a lot, ended up owning some shops before finally settling in Scotland for some years working with young offenders.
When I finally returned to Denmark and began university, it was a breeze, don't know why, call it maturity, life experiences, brain development, whatever, but in college I had struggled with grasping concepts and doing my homework had taken forever... at uni I finished within the top 5% of my year... go figure... anyway, I'd say do it when you want to learn, when you're ready, when you feel you need to do it.... Hmmm not really a piece of advice so much as letting you know how it was for me. |

Often it can be difficult to get back to school later in life....Being an adult with a spouse and family can make life a bit too hectic for a degree program. Even so, many people are able to do it, so you just really have to know yourself.
After going to college straight out of high school, I realized I made a mistake. I changed my opinion on this topic... First of all, I had the opportunity to go to college before I had even finished high school. Three colleges offered me the opportunity. I turned them down, then became bored with my high school classes. Bad idea. I should done it while I was still interested in excelling rather than waiting until my study skills became rusty. Second, since I turned down early college, I should have waited a year or two after graduation before entering college. You know, live in the real world for a while to increase maturity and motivation. To this day, I still advise kids to consider doing this if they think they aren't quite ready for college. |

I left school at 15....lived on the streets for 2 years...met a man, cohabitated, had a child, got married, had three more kids, did that for eighteen years, left the man...raised the kids...and went back to school, a Psych degree, a major in Sociology and a undergrad in Counselling later...over the next 11 years. DEFINITELY later in life, we've learnt patience, discipline, delayed gratification and know EXACTLY why we are doing it. |

Yep, getting smarterer through lernifying is always guud.
Probably the reason it is easier to excel when going back to school is we arent having to try to concentrate with the raging hormones to distract us. |
