I smoke and have been put in situations were during dating the non-smoker is fine with my smoking, yet as soon as the relationship turns serious-I get the don't smoke in the house, car etc-when before it was no problem-why is that? Personal choices. I have met girls who didn't like me smoking, other non-smokers couldn't care less. Although I do find it sort of rude to smoke in a non-smoker's car or house, I argue that it's not a good idea, even if they insist it's ok. |

I posted in my profile.."no smokers please" as I have allergies and it really does bother my breathing... nothing personal

I don't understand why a non-smoker would date a smoker. To me it's the # 1 turnoff. Can make a sexy beautiful babe a Yuch-o. Ron |

I smoked unfiltered Camels for 35 years until my heart attack in '94. Quit cold turkey. I will not date a smoker, but I always try to sit in the smoking section of the restaurant.

We need to think about how much over compensation we do when we first start dating them.
I used to smoke and if I was dating a non smoker, I did not smoke around them much or at all when we were dating. I went away from them to smoke. So when the relationship got to the point of living together they wanted the same consideration in our house or our car. So maybe it is that the smoker expects them to have FULLY accepted it when the smoker hasn't FULLY exposed them to it yet. Hmmmm???? |

I agree-why can't people just be honest and say smoking bothers me or I don't want to date a smoker? I feel it is the same as trying to change your lovers way of dressing-talking-eating-etc. hey, just so you know, i don't mind smokers |

Oh and I would actually rather date a non smoker now. Just to stop me from relapsing. It'll be a year quit on 09/09/10

This is an epidemic. I mean, Red Bull users refuse to date Rockstar users. Coke drinkers would rather spit on Pepsi drinkers. I mean...stop the insanity!

I see a man smoke; its an instant turnoff no matter how good looking he is. |

Should smokers date non-smokers?
How am I supposed to know? I can't tell if a woman smokes until after we are finished. Wait. What were we talking about again? |

I see it more of a power play! Or, perhaps they just care and hope, in theri love for you, that you will give up a habit that is detrimental to your health. Really that is your own business, but some people feel that they r showing their concern in this way. cute photo, OP |

Im single and I don't smoke in the house, it's really not a big deal. You have to take ten steps before you can smoke.

Lot of things like smoker /nonsmoker as you grow older that seem to matter more than it did when I was younger. Guess with experience you get a better handle on what you can/can't live with. When I had kids in the home that was all my top issues now most of that I could care less about. I wonder when I am 80+ what will top my list? lol

Oh and I would actually rather date a non smoker now. Just to stop me from relapsing. It'll be a year quit on 09/09/10 totally understand your point of view. i used to smoke like a fiend but rarely smoke anymore. paradox considers himself a nonsmoker but will have the occassional cigarette (maybe three a year lol) but he does smoke cigars. we have a well ventilated three season porch so weve worked out the deal that all smoking commences in said porch. we do not smoke around our non smoking family members and if out with friends will step outside (weather permitting) if we absolutely must...which rarely happens and usually if anpother friends is stepping out. weve limited any smoking to my car (since i tend to light up on long road trips) and not our other two vehicles. basically it comes down to not wanting my house and clothes to smell, and up here in mn i usually smoke my e cig now which helps me not smell like smoke, is cheaper, healthier for my lungs, and i can smoke it anywhere...even on a plane...or in a bar or restaurant as its just water vapor. we want to be together and we work out all the little kinks of our relationships to make that happen. when its two lives coming together you have to respect the person you care about and their comfort levels and they have to respect yours. you both should budge a little. and remind them that it wasnt a huge problem in the beginning but you might be willing to work out a new system (if you are willing) if they want to talk about it. |
