I was watching the Today show and the guys from this were on, explaining what they're doing. They are correcting typos on signs across the US.
http://greattypohunt.com/ I thought it was an interesting idea. Good for them! If you had a sign that was corrected, would you be offended, or would you learn from it? |

There are too many illiterates out there who wouldn't know if the correction even took place, much less what it means. This is kind of a pointless exercise - interesting, but pointless. Kinda like a sign in a bookstore window that says 'Learn To Read!' ... the target audience never even knows it's there ...

But, I do wonder if there are some out there who wouldn't even notice if their sign had been corrected. |

Not if I was famous for my veranda and had the
Biggest Deck In the Country. |

Not only would they not notice, they wouldn't care ... the whole thing's kind of pedantic ...

Not only would they not notice, they wouldn't care ... the whole thing's kind of pedantic ... Well, you don't have to pay attention to their project, then. |

Have you ever seen anyone corrected for spelling or grammar on a site like this? Some get very offended. |

Not if I was famous for my veranda and had the Biggest Deck In the Country. Are we to assume this is a typo??? |

Right, but I was talking about public signs, as that's what their project is about.

I dunno...just my opinion...but you'd think if they cared they would have gotten it right to begin with ya???

I think it's great. People should care, and if they don't then I'm glad there are people who care enough to correct their mistakes. Hopefully people will see the corrected signs and take it a little more seriously next time they are tasked with creating one.

And here's my thought on Kings_Knight comments altho I get what you're saying .. even if they don't 'get it' .. someone else does and will TELL them Good grief, public signs are for public perusal. How horrible if we chose not to care just because they don't. Like fingernails on a chalkboard |

Like fingernails on a chalkboard I do hope that even if those who created the signs that were corrected don't notice, that someone else will point out the corrections for them. |
