I think I would have checked into all of this before I moved anywhere...

Been told that they will give more than 12 hrs/day and 7 days/week. When I got here...huhuhu... Only the regular staff gets 12 hrs /day.

I think I would have checked into all of this before I moved anywhere... I am not staying here for good, only for this season, until Sept. only for the salmon season. |

Everyone wants better jobs. when you relocate, in this economy, one should realize that the good jobs go to the locals before anyone else.

i say be patient, and try to get on the boats... they pick the regulars first, then hire on after that... it's hard to get on up there, i tried for 3 seasons when i lived in seattle, and finally did for 1 season. good luck, and keep trying

Can't help.
You're screwed. It is only a bad ending if you cannot look at it as a wild and funny experiment of your youth. |

Alaska was your first Mistake! You got to go where there is work in the first place. San Francisco would have been a much better choice!
Also the minimum wage in CA is $8.25 an hr. All I can suggest is look into working for the oil companies! They are the only ones there with steady work. There are a host of support jobs they need that are more domestic in nature like catering, as well as other things including needing people to help in their medical facilities. Those jobs pay a lot better! |

good news or not?
I had a job offer for next year season in Alaska. Quality Control position... What do you think peeps? |
its OK but the real cherry is continual work. Still in some cases you got to take what you can get!
Quality control on what?
If you are working the fish on the barge. You mainly get hourly and a "bonus" for the season. I don't know about the cannery side. |
