i was wondering that question all the time
and i agree with s1owhand
i think that's why we are human created similar to each other.
If there were more than 1 god, i guess we will be created different. Maybe, as a muslim, i will have 2 heads and 2 brain inside of it, to show that the god of muslim is smarter than another god. But the fact is we are all same.

This is actually a very simple question to answer;

There is a "absolute truth" it is basic, uncomplicated; even a child can grasp it. But people do not see what is, they see what they want, for a number of reasons. If you compare all the religions of the world you will find they all have a common theme except one. That one is the true Christian doctrine. In all other religions you earn your way. Not so with Christiainity; it is a free gift.

Well that's not true. You have to accept that Jesus Christ is your savior and love him before you get the gift.

And also, that's what ALL religions say. "There is an "absolute truth" it is basic, but most people don't recognize the flying spaghetti monster as their savior."

What you just gave isn't an answer at all.

Actually it is.

I send you a letter informing you that I have deposited one million dollars in a bank account in your name; it is a free gift from me to you. And you cry out in protest "But it is NOT free; I had to open the letter and I have to drive to the bank to get it!!!"

Pleeeeeaaaaseee, give me a break!

Also, believing that you gave me one million dollars is just a little more believable than a jew walking on water, turning water into wine, and being the son of god... so it takes less away from my character to try and believe that you did that.

With extraordinary claims, extraordinary evidence is required.

i don't know if my wording was messed, but i'm not trying to say multiple gods. But why don't you believe in the buddhist principles? Or Zeus instead of your god... not believing in multiple ones. What makes you say that the god you believe in is in fact actually there at all?

So Sparrows, what exactly did you "accept?

You accepted that Jesus died for your "SINS" but you truly aren't guilty of sins that warrant his death?

Sorry, it doesn't work that way.

You can't accept this gift for FREE like that. The only way you can accept it is if you confess that you are indeed guilty of the crime.

Otherwise, there would have been no need for anyone to make a sacrifice on your behalf in the first place.

So you must be willing to nail Jesus to the pole yourself. If you aren't willing to do that, then you reject the sacrifice on your behalf. You simply refuse to have anything to do with it.

That's where I'm at. I wash my hands of the whole affair. I refuse to condone it. Therefore I cannot possibly accept something that I refuse to even condone.

The authors of this mythological story created a situation in which it's impossible for me to get to their God. I refuse to condone nailing people to poles on my behalf. I just can't do it.

Sorry.

So I'm thankful that this whole thing is nothing more than a sick story written by a bunch of ancient sick men. Imagine if it were true, how horrible would that be?

Thank goodness we can chalk this one up to being just another Mediterranean myth.

I'm not going to condone nailing anyone to any poles. That's just plain sick! ill

why would what religion one observes matter to god?
it's ridiculous! is not a good buddhist just as good as
a good christian? of course she is. Wiccan? sure, why not!
are they kind and thoughtful?

you will make god laugh!

laugh

that comment makes me laugh.

But you're not answering my question. Why do you believe that's true? I certainly believe that so long as you live to my morals you're a good person, but morals are objective, and everyone has different ones. YOu believe some people who are good will be viewed kindly by a "god" but why do you say that? Many doctrines say that there are other factors they must adhere to to be accepted in return.

there is nothing wrong with amusing yourself! drinker

I have answered your question very directly and succinctly.
Many people agree with me. They are generally called monotheists.

God is in fact what you are calling goodwill. God may be defined
by that - although most religions go into a bit more detail in
their explanation.

It is silly to think that God would care what religion you observe
as long as you are virtuous - (kind).

You have missed an essential point about monotheism. Monotheism
rejects the idea that morals are objective and that someone like
Pol Pot is just as moral as someone like Ghandi just because both
believed they were moral themselves. Stating that there is one
God - also defined as the ideal goodness to which we all aspire -
breaks that symmetry. The very idea of one God may be taken as a
view that there is not a crass equivalence in morality for all
possible behaviors. It is nothing less than the foundation of
ethics.

Is it not absurd to say that a mass murderer is just as moral
as someone who spends their life devoted to charity? What is the
difference? Godliness.

This is the essence.

Of course you needn't be any particular religion to be a good
human being. You needn't believe in any specific incarnation of
God either. One does not have to believe in God at all nor bother
to think of these things. What is necessary is kindness, compassion,
self-sacrifice, admirable behavior and working towards a real
meaningful understanding of these issues is the province of all
religious observance - Hindu and Yazidi alike.

There. I said it.

Because i have felt the presence of God and have seen many things he has done for everyone. If the God i believed in isn't real, why in the world would some other god help me through my life. I have had many upon many blessings from God and i thank him for everything he's ever done for me and for everyone else.

I don't accept another god for the same reason I don't watch Twilight - the fans. God, for me, is everything, both good and bad. There is no distance from god because everything is god. Everything is energy that could not exist without all other forms of energy. Everything is dependent and inter-connected.

If I die and wake up next to some giant gates and I have to worship a toaster to get in or otherwise I'll to go a purgative state or a hell, then I will totally worship the toaster, regardless of how well it toasts.

The same principle applies for me in life though. I was raised in an environment was religion just didn't exist, so I was free to believe whatever I wanted. In that environment all religions looked very silly to me. The majority of the people that I saw were scared.

The people that I have respected in my life have come from several different religious backgrounds, but what they have in common is their action. I respect the idea of Jesus, but suspect any word of his nature has been tampered irreversibly at this point.

I respect the teachings of Siddhartha but don't give him rule over me. I believe in skillful and unskillful action. I know when I'm doing something unskillful and I have people around me who will tell me if I don't have a clear grasp on it.

So... basically, I have no need to believe in a god. I don't want a protector. Being connected the source of everything is just as good as anything to me and nothing has provoked me to believe anything else.

Also, I dig the Flying Spaghetti Monster reference. Haha.

2. The only way of discovering the limits of the possible is to venture a little way past them into the impossible.

So?

Christians just invent their own version of Christianity just so they can accept it. At least they aren't accepting anything real.

Where's the difference? spock

As i'm here on this forum, and i've talked with many of you before, i feel as if i'm talking to primarily christians on this forum. However i know that i've also talked with other Mormons, Jews and Muslims.

My question is Why don't you believe in another god, or another worship of your god. For instance christianity has hundreds of different sub-sects, many of which believe that others will not reach salvation because of the alteration of their faith.

Ultimately it comes down to semantics. Do you believe in your ways of faith because of the way you were raised? Did you research all known religions before you made your decision? Do you believe that your religious "knowledge" is more right than another persons.

Ultimately, why do you believe that you are right?

To me, one religion is as false as the other. All religion is is personalized. We see more and more of people who no longer attend a church, but instead adhere to their own form of spiritual adhesion. They read their spiritual texts and then believe more in their own interpretation more than other scholars'.

Discuss.

Faith. Faith is one answer for me. My mother gave birth to me and she told me who my father is,,through faith in her and her love for me, I didnt research the possibility of other men being my father, I do believe I was right and my Father was my only Father.

The same holds true of my heavenly Father, ,through faith in those who shared knowledge with me and through the evidence around me that supports those things that I believe,, I have not felt a need or desire to study other religions although college kind of forced me to. I believe my God, as my creator, is the only God I need concern myself with and his word is the word that leads to knowledge and back home to Him.

Honestly I don't find anything in the Bible which disagrees with anything that I said in any meaningful way. The Bible is full of
self contradictory passages and points or stories that are hard
to interpret in a consistent way.

From my way of thinking, God would never punish any good person
who is kind and considerate of their fellow human being and behaves
in an ethical and righteous way. Since you don't have to be
Catholic or Eastern Orthodox or Confucianist or Muslim to be good
and no single religion has a monopoly on kindness then it follows
that one need not be a Jehovah's Witness or Seventh Day Adventist
or Southern Baptist. But you do have to be good! The same applies
whether you believe in some specific image of God, draw cartoons
of Mohammad or not!

Simply put; The Bibles claims it is not in your nature as a human being to be good enough,.A person who seeks independence from the God who sustains all spiritual life then cries foul they have to die spiritually, calling it unfair, is like a person who dies of thrist with a glass of water in front of him/her, blameing some other for the awlful punishment of dying by dehydration

Don't be silly. God does not punish good people.

It does not matter how you worship God - just be nice!
