I am an antique dealer and I see the aftermath of a compulsive hoarder when I am asked to settle an estate......It can be devistating to a family.....If a person is a compulsive hoarder, the longer they go with out intervention, the longer and harder it will be to get them the help that is needed...

My father is an antique dealer as well, but he himself is a hoarder.... Angel saw his shop....lol He's not really a hoarder I guess because he constantly sells, but I think he buys more than he sells!

Hi Kristyflowerforyou It is a fine line...If a person has 1,000 thumbtacks and you use 4 or 5 a year, if a person has 1,000 paperclips and only use a few a year, if a person has 50 VCR's and no player, if a person has stacks and stacks of books, but has not re-read the sixth one from the bottom of stack 4, if a person has 50 empty frames, but has not put a pic in one for more than 6 months..........they may be a hoarderlaugh laugh

My Sister will spend two hours unpacking the closets to find a 50 cent thingy that she may use someday...She will find it and sees that she has 20 more of those thingys that she has had stashed away for 10 years in the carefully over packed closet.....The store is right across the street....One minute over to the store, 50 cents later and life is good.... I just think it is a fine line.

I seem to collect stuff that just needs a bit of fixing...a little glue, a coat of paint, some refinishing, perhaps rewired. Now, I refuse to bring anything else home...figure I'll be dead before everything I've already amassed is fixed...ohwell

Well now even I have my limits what I will keep when it comes to that my problem is getting rid of old clothes slaphead Ya know I might wear that again hummm that is if I loose the weight in order to get into them againslaphead

I do keep a lot of stuff but now if it is broken or messed up and can not be used again I will throw it away or have a garage sale... Matter of fact I plan on having one pretty soon myself therefore I do need to go through some stuff in order to do so...

I never know when I'm going to want to look at math tests I took in second grade.

I'm a little compulsive with books and papers and stuff like that. I actually was thinking about creating a time-line for my entire life with the papers that I have... then I sobered up.

It is a good thing to sober up....Some addictions are far more devistating than others.....

My need to save every document and book/magazine ever are far more devastating and depraved than the depths of an ether binge.
