It appears that in a new book about the first year of his presidency, "The Promise: President Obama Year One" by Jonathon Alter, President Obama referred to Tea Party protesters as "Tea Baggers," a term
derived from an act of oral sex.

According to Jake Tapper at ABC News. "President Obama is quoted in an interview saying that the unanimous vote of House Republicans vote against the stimulus bills 'set the tenor for the whole year ... That helped to create the tea-baggers and empowered that whole wing of the Republican Party to where it now controls the agenda for the Republicans.'"

Most Tea Party protesters regard "Tea Bagger" as the rough equivalent of calling an African American the "N word." It is therefore fascinating that President Obama should be indulging in that kind of labeling.

Barack Obama was touted by his supporters as a man who would unite America, bringing forth "hope and change." But President Obama seems to have accomplished quite the opposite. He is making things worse by not taking his opposition seriously, using pornographically charged words to refer to millions of Americans.

Obama knows nothing about professionalism.

He is more professional than Bush ever was.

I don't recal President Bush ever using street slang for an oral sex act....... Just sayin.

Do you really believe that the term "Tea Bagger" is the same as calling someone the "N" word???

Give me a break!!!

laugh laugh laugh laugh laugh laugh laugh laugh

My sentiments EXACTLY.

Ditto here. I mean.... talk about pretentious. We have this massive history of oppression tied in with the 'n-word'....and the tea baggers want to claim to have equal justification for being offended? I mean...thats just absurd.

Obama only said what some of them have called themselves.

The organizers for the Tea Party had a gimmick. They asked people to send a tea bag to the Oval Office. One of the exhortations was “Tea Bag the Fools in D.C.” A protester was seen with a sign saying, “Tea Bag the Liberal Dems Before They Tea Bag You." They started it. If they didn't like the connotation of the saying, they should have never have said it.

There's buttons that say, "Proud to be a Teabagger".

What the heck is this guy wearing?

http://www.flickr.com/photos/davidhglover/3445797046/sizes/m/in/set-72157616821360566/

It says, "Taxed Enough Already Bag".

Maddow talks about it here:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aZFtGUNyHdo&feature=player_embedded

Part of it:

Alongside the often entertaining infighting among all of the warring tea party factions, another complication in the movement has been addressed in a very, very frank terms today by Jay Nordlinger at "The National Review Online." Should the tea party folks really be calling themselves teabaggers?

The article opens with the fundamental question for far right conservatives, quote, "To teabag or not to teabag." At issue, many of the very same signs, sound bites and calls to action we have highlighted on this show in covering the movement. For example -

(BEGIN VIDEO CLIP)

UNIDENTIFIED MALE: Teabag the fools in D.C.

(END VIDEO CLIP)

MADDOW: Mr. Nordlinger also mentioned this now-famous protest sign, "Tea bag the liberal dems before they tea bag you." He did not mention the "Teabag Obama" Twitter page and Facebook group.

The tea party movement has never called themselves "tea baggers".The people in the tea party are refered to as "Conservatives" not tea baggers. It was Anderson cooper on CNN who called the people in the tea party movement tea baggers(a term used by gay men describing anal oral sex).Nobody in the tea party movement would ever say "I am a tea bagger".I do agree it is a slang offensive term but I am not that worried about it.I will get the last laugh will Obama's dumb butt is sent home packing after his first term.

Winx, thanks for providing those links.

I clearly remember the first time I heard the term 'teabagger' was from a tea-party activist, referring to themself. It was so long ago, I had just recently heard of the 'tea party' movement.

I was a bit amused, but I thought that 'tea bagging' was such an obscure sexual reference that it wouldn't cause much of a hiccup. I didn't know that the under-25 crowd made such frequent use of the phrase.

You're welcome.

The first time that I had ever heard the expression in my life was from a tea-party activist referring to himself like that. I honestly didn't think anything about it until I later heard what it really meant.

Just like you, it was so long ago and when the Tea Party movement was new.

I had seen more examples of pictures of them in the past. I wish I had saved them but I didn't think anything of it. lol
