Topic: Obama Calls Tea Party Protestors 'Tea Baggers'

It appears that in a new book about the first year of his presidency, "The Promise: President Obama Year One" by Jonathon Alter, President Obama referred to Tea Party protesters as "Tea Baggers," a term
derived from an act of oral sex.

According to Jake Tapper at ABC News. "President Obama is quoted in an interview saying that the unanimous vote of House Republicans vote against the stimulus bills 'set the tenor for the whole year ... That helped to create the tea-baggers and empowered that whole wing of the Republican Party to where it now controls the agenda for the Republicans.'"

Most Tea Party protesters regard "Tea Bagger" as the rough equivalent of calling an African American the "N word." It is therefore fascinating that President Obama should be indulging in that kind of labeling.

Barack Obama was touted by his supporters as a man who would unite America, bringing forth "hope and change." But President Obama seems to have accomplished quite the opposite. He is making things worse by not taking his opposition seriously, using pornographically charged words to refer to millions of Americans.

truly, its most likely a matter of semantics, I also had no idea it was derogatory as I have heard news media refer to them this way and in all my adult life (including a brief stint as an adult operator in which I researched sexual interests and fetishes) I never heard the term in sexual conversation.

The TEA party has not been around anywhere NEAR as long as african americans , so the expectation to know the level of slander one word implies is much lower than the expectation to know the other. I am POSITIVE (like I did) that if the President is informed this is derogatory , he will apologize and cease to use the term.

That's what I call em too! laugh

If you don't know what that means....

(Cover your eyes MsHarmony.)laugh

To be teabagged means:

To let someone put their balls on your chin or forehead.laugh

I'm sorry MsHarmony.

But most people in their mid 20's have been chuckling to ourselves for the past year and a half...

I am single with no kids. I have 2/3 of my check conviscated, er, taxed, but you will never see me crying about it. My taxes actually went down this past year, not a lot, but I'm sure most teabaggers don't know that. Since they know all about taxes.

For someone so ostensibly 'smart', he sure is showin' people how to wear his asss on his shoulders ... and yes, he DID know EXACTLY what he said when he said it ... just like he knows what he's doing when he gives the 'one-finger salute' every time he puts his hand next to his face while he's 'thinking' ...

Yeah, they used to always call themselves "teabaggers", that's why we were laughing at them this whole time.

It's like if I started the 'National Nut Huggers Movement', then wondered why everyone was trying not to laugh at me.

And Obama isn't in his mid 20's, so he probably doesn't know what it means either.

When I posted this it wasn't about who called who a name first. And if you think calling somene a teabagger isn't derogatory you need to have your head examined. That is how the term is used.

My point was that why is the president using it?

He is supposed to be the leader of us. A leader doesn't call the ones he is supposed to be leading names.

Didn't he run on uniting this country? How is saying that going to unite anyone except for his plitical base?

Yes, they called themselves teabaggers first. I think that Glen Beck said it too. The media now uses the term too.

Maybe it has something to the hats that they wear. They have tea bags hanging from them.

Nutz attract...

Obama just sucks. he made a huge number of promises he doubled back on and repeated EVERYTHING bush did on a grander scale.

the deficits is even bigger now, he shoved more mandatory insurance down our throats, and instead of listening to Americans what does he do?

The exact opposite.

Yep, change we could count on!

"OH BUT WE NEED TO GIVE HIM TIME!" to do what? destroy our country more??

Look at what has been happening in Greece. That is what we are headed to thanks to Obama!

There is something fundamentally wrong when the economy is so depressed and yet bankers and lenders make all of the money while the rest of us suck it!

P.S. Why does every fing Democrats always promise more GOVERNMENT jobs rather than try to stimulate industry and small business growth?

OH I know why! They don't line the pockets of these politicians!

I want to smack Obama upside his head with an 18" long black dildo. That is more comical than tea bagging him!

By the way, the Tea Party is too disorganized and too full of disenfranchised Republicans to really make a difference. Oddly they are getting a lot of disenfranchised Democrats as well. They do have the right ideas but the wrong people.

I still want to smack Obama and Pelosi with a big fat black rubber dildo! I just do not like them at all! They are grand abuses of power on two legs!

But that is just my humble opinion...

And I am entitled to that!

The evolution of the word 'tea bagger'
Tea Party activists are outraged by the revelation that Obama once used the term "tea baggers" to describe them. But the coinage wasn't always considered an insult...

Though it may seem innocent, the term "tea bagger" has sexual connotations. Photo: Creative Commons
Was President Obama speaking derogatively when he referred to the Tea Party as "tea baggers"? That's the topic of some debate after a review of Jonathan Alter's book, The Promise: President Obama, Year One, revealed that Obama used the term in November 2009. The grassroots movement didn't always consider "tea bagger" a slur: Early Tea Partiers innocently embraced the term until they discovered its vulgar connotations (see also the 1998 John Waters movie Pecker). In a twist, some conservatives have recently advocated that the word be reclaimed. Here's a look at the evolution of the insult:

Feb. 27, 2009
At the first anti-stimulus "New American Tea Party" rally in Washington D.C., a protestor carries a sign reading "Tea Bag the Liberal Dems before they Tea Bag You!!" The Washington Independent's David Weigel calls it "the best sign I saw."

March 2
Americans for Prosperity, an anti-tax group, is one of the first Tea Party organizations to advocate sending tea bags to elected officials to protest the stimulus package. Several other lobby groups follow suit.

April 1
Several Tea Party protest sites encourage readers to "Tea bag the fools in DC." Jay Nordlinger at National Review Online later admits: "Conservatives started [using the term]... but others ran and ran with it."

April 9
Rachel Maddow is the first to mock the Tea Party's use of the phrase on her left-leaning MSNBC show. "Even Governor Mark Sanford of South Carolina is getting in on the hot tea-bagging action," she says, stifling laughter. (Watch Rachel Maddow joke about the "tea baggers")

April 13
David Shuster, filling in for liberal commentator Keith Olbermann on MSNBC, also makes fun of the phrase. "While the parties are officially toothless, the tea-baggers are full-throated about their goals," he says. Jeff Poor at the Business and Media Insitute says that the MSNBC comments are "lost in juvenile criticism and ignoring the reason there is discontent from the conservative base"

April 14
Anderson Cooper, on his avowedly non-partisan CNN show, makes a similar crack, but later back-pedals, calling his remark a "stupid, silly, one-line aside" that was not meant to "disparage legitimate protests."

September 10
Badges with the message "Proud to be a Tea Bagger" are still on sale at Tea Party events, according to an article written later in the year.

November 10
A report in The New York Times claims the President called Tea Partiers "the teabag, anti-government people" prompting the blog Redstate to respond: "Sexual innuendo is inappropriate in political discourse. The Left and their media tools need a soap bar sandwich to clean up their act."

December 7
In an article for National Review Online, Jay Nordlinger notes that the word is being used so regularly, it is beginning to lose its pejorative association. "'Tory' and 'Whig' were put-downs when they originated," he notes, and "'Yankee Doodle' was none too nice." However, he suggests conservatives should continue to oppose the "lowdown term."

April 14, 2010
Prominent conservative Andrew Breitbart posts a video on the site Big Government in an attempt to reclaim the term. "I'm Proud to be a Tea Bagger" currently has over 90,000 views.

May 4
In his book, Alter quotes Obama saying that GOP opposition to the stimulus package "helped to create the tea-baggers." Grover Norquist, president of the Americans for Tax Reform group, compares it to the pejorative use of the N-word.

I could care less about the term. But it is seen as being a slur. Now I wouldn't compare it to the "N" word. But I would think our president would have more class than to stoop to calling a group of Americans names.

You've got to be kidding me. You can't be serious about that.

You do realize that some teabaggers even refer to themselves as teabaggers, right?
