That wasn't harsh at all, just honest... It is seriously dangerous.. I could see you poo pooing our advice if it was let's say Aruba... It's windy and not very attractive there, most only go for scuba diving... I went had a good time with friends but I wouldn't go back and don't recommend it but if people go there it's not dangerous... I'd just hate to see someone get hurt when they could have prevented it... but not my business... i hear ya. and thank everyone including yourself for a little input and concern. as for anyone who may be considering a non-typical vacation in Jamaica like myself, I may have found something that can be of some help. go here http://www.contentstate.com/experience-the-real-jamaica/ |

From what I understand about Jamaica you should only have the typical tourist experience.. It's not a nice place to be outside of the tourist areas.. I've heard the same Hummm well I went on a cruise in Sept this last year one of our stops was in Jamaica as well. Yes we went to one of the tourist areas. My brother has been there a few times and said that you want to stay within the tourist areas in Jamaica for the other areas are nasty poorly taken care of and not recommended at all. Myself if I wanted to go somewhere I would go for the Cayman Islands instead much cleaner and lots to see & do.... But the resorts in Jamaica are nice....and well taken care of... |

Jamaica is a beautiful & diverse island There is MUCH to see & do... Based on what you state you are looking for.. and as someone who has been there multiple times, I offer my .02
The Runaway Bay/Ocho Rios part of the Island would probably suit you best. There are many hotels & all inclusive resorts here (which I strongly suggest! An all inclusive resort is not only your BEST dollar value, but there is always so much to do there as well if you do not feel like venturing out. They also organize many tours & day trips to "local" places that you would not normally be comfortable at on your own). By staying in the Ocho Rios/Runaway Bay area you can also take the local bus or taxi into town without fear.. you can see life thru the eyes of a local Jamaican without having to worry about personal safety (which is an issue at times in other parts of the island). This location is not as isolated as some of the others, has sooooooooo much to see & do (gotta make time for Dunn's River Falls!) and enables you to have a vacation that combines the best of tourist &local flavor. Hope this helps! |

I have Jamacian friends, and they want to go to the touristy places....If you chose jamacia STAY in the tourist areas, or chose another destination! yeah that seems to be the status quo. i've heard bout places not being safe, but the same thing is said about new orleans and i go everywhere. i know different country right? but people are people where ever you go. who knows maybe i'l stay at a villa, and ask the locals for opinions on where to go and what there is to do Yo Whitey! Look dude... listen to IndnPrncs she knows what she is saying.... I loved MoBay and I don't know your life experiences but even Jamaicans don't go to Kingston at night... Get It? I went to a flea market in Jamaica... I was the only white boy there but I dragged my cab driver with me. Felt safe and made some friends(with scars on their faces) I must post the pics...you'd wonder how I made it out alive LOL Good luck and NEVER ask ppl on the street for 420... ask bellboy for it instead |
