Bullet One wicked car chase! This is one of my all time favorite films. A classic thriller. The first the I saw that car chase, I had to stop what I was doing, because I was in a state of awe. Yep, one of the best. I also love the car chase in The French Connection, and the original Gone In 60 Seconds. |

Rise: Blood Hunter (IMDb) Storyline: The snoopy reporter Sadie Blake is called by her nerd colleague Ethan Mills that has deciphered a code and found an address in Koreatown from information of the Goth Tricia Rawlins about a bloody cult. Sadie does not give attention to Ethan, but when she sees on the front page of the news that Tricia has been found dead in a dumpster in Koreatown, she decides to visit the address. She finds an abandoned house with a gruesome basement full of blood and she immediately drives to Ethan's apartment. She finds the place in a complete mess and is abducted by a stranger and taken to Bishop, who wants to know what Tricia has told her. Then, Bishop and his mate Eve kill Sadie and they have a necrophilic threesome with her body. Later, Sadie awakes in the freezer of the morgue and sooner she realizes that she is a vampire and promises revenge to her sire. -- Director Sebastian Gutierrez presents a refreshingly different take on the whole vampire schtick with this low budget shocker that is both bloody and innovative (these vampires may lack fangs, but still pack plenty of bite). Great cinematography, an engaging story, and a decent cast all go to make Rise: Blood Hunter worth seeking out, although the gimmicky use of a non-linear storyline is a little unnecessary (so many films seem to use this idea these days). A strong, sexy performance from Lucy Liu means that the film is never boring, although, at times, it does come across as a little too earnest for its own good. At times, Gutierrez strives so hard for an effectively moody atmosphere to suit his tale that the resulting gravitas detracts from one's enjoyment. Fortunately, Lucy Liu sees fit to shed her clothes at several points in the movie, so everything balances out nicely in the end. If you love vampire films of all types, adore Gothic fantasy, or you just want to see Ms. Liu in the buff, then Rise: Blood Hunter is recommended viewing. Movie Trivia: -This was Mako's last live action film. TMNT (2007) used recorded dialog Mako had performed, making it a voiceover role. Link this trivia -The word 'vampire' is never spoken during the film. Goofs: -Continuity: When Sadie is thrown on the bed by Bishop the bed is covered by a green duvet. In the next shot when they pin her to the bed it is covered with black plastic. -Continuity: When the detective is first shown placing photographs on his wall, there's already a picture of Harrison's bloody wheelchair wheel at the top. However, that crime scene is not discovered until several minutes later. -Revealing mistakes: After Sadie has sent Franny away she leans against the door. Her reflection is clearly visible in the glass, despite the fact that her lack of a reflection (due to being a vampire) is an important point in the movie. -Continuity: When Sadie stops to pick up the hitchhiker her vehicle's left tail light is burned out, yet minutes later when she turns off the main road it is working. -Continuity: When the detective is talking to Sadie after zipping up her jeans, the blade on her necklace is visible and clearly sitting to one side of her neck. In the next shot of her, it is hidden, and in the following shot it is visible again. -Continuity: Just before Sadie stabs Preacher in the heart, there is already blood down his shirt, then in the next shot it is white, then in the next it is bloody again -Errors made by characters (possibly deliberate errors by the filmmakers): When Det. Rawlins is in the hotel with Sadie, he remarks about her fast regeneration process after her back heals almost immediately from being shot. Later, when he lifts her off the meat hook to save her, she still has her foot injury from the stabbing by Poe sometime earlier. |

Vampire Girl VS Frankenstein Girl- From the makers of Tokyo Gore Police. More extremely entertaining over the top gore! In the same "arterial vein" as TGP, Meatball Machine, Machine Girl.

The Watcher in the Woods. Really corny. I have this movie on DVD, but mainly for nostalgic reasons. Back in Elementary School on Friday Nights they would play movies in the cafeteria. This was one of the ones that was always played around Halloween |

But, I did remember having a pair of Adidas tennis shoes just like the girl in the movie. |

Frozen 2010, From Adam Green, director of Hatchet. Think Open Water on a ski lift. I enjoyed it a lot....definitely have to have suspension of disbelief on this one. Looked for this movie and watched it just now. At first glance, I thought that three young people stuck in a ski lift wasn't much of a thriller movie concept. I mean, how far can one stretch such a story without making it a bit unbelievable or boring or both. But the simple gruesomeness of it all proved to be the best quality for this film, in my opinion. It's one of the better low budget films I've ever seen in a long time. I give it two severed thumbs up! |

You know, they're suspended up in the air....sigh. |
