Bloodstalkers 1975(though IMdB has it listed as '78)- Rural horror flick about 2 couples who decide to spend their vacation at a cabin in the Everglades. They are warned by locals not to go there as the only thing that stomps those grounds is something called a Bloodstalker. But of course they don't listen. To be honest the movie's first half was pretty ho hum, felt like typical 70's PG horror(the lead characters felt like they were right out of Hillbillys in a Haunted House)...until the last 15 minutes or so. Totally took me by surprise, which actually made it that much more effective(especially the gore scenes which I wasn't expecting at all). Also a very downbeat ending.

Finally saw Legion - awesome, creepy movie. I thought it was really good. Hi, Row! I liked that movie too! It was given a lot of bad rap, mostly because they compared it to Tales from the Crypt: Demon Knight and/or The Prophecy, whereas I just appreciated the movie in its own context. Though I have to admit that there were times when I questioned the pacing of their character development. It had HUGE potential, but somehow fell short of it. I guess there were just too many things left for speculation. Still, I enjoyed the film enough to buy my own copy. Oh, and a bit of trivia! The tattoos on Micheal (and later Jeep) are Enochian, a language supposedly of the angels as recorded by John Dee and his seer Edward Kelley in the late 16th century, which they claimed was revealed to them by angels. |

Re watch:
Lunch Meat '87- Super low budget backwoods horror flick. Group of friends cross paths with a crazy old man and his three sons. I read and hear a lot of criticism about the acting- either I have a very high tolerance for it, or the people complaining have zero tolerance/and or don't watch many low budget horror flicks. Considering this is micro budget horror, the acting is pretty decent, especially the backwoods family. Characters act believable, I also like the fact that in most of these 80's horror flicks that have a cabin in the woods setting- they usually spend time-filler moments partying...in Lunch Meat the characters don't even make it to the cabin before they are attacked by the backwoods loonies. |

Altitude '10- Sigh...ever since seeing stills(and the trailer) of the creature from this film I've wanted to see it...the creature is still cool(looks like something right out of Lovecraft) but the film itself was very blah....we get about an hour of bantering, bickering, and fighting- basically time filler...then when the creature finally shows up in all its glory, we get a lame explanation for why everything is happening. Felt like something right out of Twilight Zone, or Amazing Stories, but not original or interesting.
Sonny Boy '89- Extremely underrated film. Paul L Smith(Bluto from the Popeye movie) and his wife Pearl(Davide Carradine, yes you read it right, David Carradine in drag!) raise a found baby into an adult killing machine. Bloody New Year '87. Super cheesy kitchen sink horror flick. I love every second of it. This is one of those horror movies that popped up in the mid to late 80's where anything and everything can happen(like Spookies, and Hellgate) Group of friends running from 3 thugs find themselves on an island resort, that seems to be stuck in a time warp. Sort of a super low budget The Shining with zombies. Directed by Norman J Warren(Inseminoid, Alien Prey, Spaced Out) |

Dark Age '87- Excellent low budget killer croc flick. A giant croc goes on a rampage in Northern Australia.

Hey Red! You give MUCH better movie reviews then I do! I agree, it had huge potential to be epic, but wasn't. It could have been great rather than good. The fight scene between Michael and Gabriel was intense. I didn't know that bit of trivia about the Enochian language! That's cool. And I liked how Jeep loved Charlie and the baby on blind faith. Good movie! |
