Topic: High Fructose Corn Syrup - Avoid it! | |
---|---|
The chit that's made America fat...after it was introduced as a sweetner Americans began to gain weight.
"High-fructose corn syrup seems to be a common ingredient in many foods. What are the concerns about high-fructose corn syrup? Answer from Katherine Zeratsky, R.D., L.D. High-fructose corn syrup is a common sweetener and preservative. High-fructose corn syrup is made by changing the sugar (glucose) in cornstarch to fructose — another form of sugar. The end product is a combination of fructose and glucose. Because it extends the shelf life of processed foods and is cheaper than sugar, high-fructose corn syrup has become a popular ingredient in many sodas, fruit-flavored drinks and other processed foods. So far, research has yielded conflicting results about the effects of high-fructose corn syrup. For example, various early studies showed an association between increased consumption of sweetened beverages (many of which contained high-fructose corn syrup) and obesity. But recent research — some of which is supported by the beverage industry* — suggests that high-fructose corn syrup isn't intrinsically less healthy than other sweeteners, nor is it the root cause of obesity. While research continues, moderation remains important. Many beverages and other processed foods made with high-fructose corn syrup and other sweeteners are high in calories and low in nutritional value. Regularly including these products in your diet has the potential to promote obesity — which, in turn, promotes conditions such as type 2 diabetes, high blood pressure and coronary artery disease. If you're concerned about the amount of high-fructose corn syrup or other sweeteners in your diet, consider these tips: ■Limit processed foods. ■Avoid foods that contain added sugar. ■Choose fresh fruit rather than fruit juice or fruit-flavored drinks. Even 100 percent fruit juice has a high concentration of sugar. ■Choose fruit canned in its own juices instead of heavy syrup. ■Drink less soda. ■Don't allow sweetened beverages to replace milk, especially for children. Think of it this way, you can tell a dog Radiator fluid is bad for it but a dog will still drink it even if it kills them. Look at smoking as a habit.
Got to love how our government's answer to everything is Tax it, Tax it, Tax it. They would not make money if they made things illegal. Besides, people on average anywhere in the world are lazy and will get fat if given a chance. If you want people to loose weight break out the whip! |

Good luck finding processed foods without high fructose corn syrup in it.
I remember a few years ago there was a commercial on Nickelodeon about food ingredients that rhymed with "gross". Any word that rhymed with "gross", was sugar. They add it to almost everything. It's really sad when you think about it. |

Pssst ...
And ...You quoted me out of context, never claimed either ... ... The question was surrounding flavour ... Amy's is bountiful in flavour ... and it is on the individual to moderate carbs. On point, there is no high fructose corn syrup in Amy's products ... Corn and corn tortillas, etc. was not the subject, nor debate ... Try the brand "Amy's"
Not all of their foods are corn free, and all still are high in carbs.... |
