Yesterday I found a place that makes special order cardboard boxes. I paid $25 plus tax for a box to pack a light house that I built. Crazy!! This part of moving is so much work.... never mind the million phone calls to get home owners ins, bank accounts, settlement attorney etc etc etc. Haven't even started calling the utility companies on both ends, Monday for all that fun! 24 days and counting....can't wait!!!

Every word I say is true:

I just finished moving. Took fifteen days. I did it on a trailer pulled by my bicycle. The cargo trailer I rigged from a Schwinn baby trailer.

I took fourteen trips in the first five days, and five trips in the last ten days. The fourteen first trips the load was around 200 lbs each. It went up to 240 lbs on the occasion, but some loads were ligher at 160 lbs.

I kept packing and unpacking, and using the same boxes. I am a pack rat, and downsized from a two-bedroom to a room in a rooming house. I had sold almost all my furniture before the move. On the twelveth day I found a very large and snazzy and high-priced dresser with eight drawers in the garbage. I took it home to the new place, where the landlord could not get over how much stuff I brought in. Each other tenant came in, one-by-one, and ooed and awed and asked me where I planned to sleep. I said, I'll hope to make a clearing on the floor, and put down my foam mattress which I had bought on CraigsList for $30.

Now I never get out of the chair. I rigged the computer to take in TV signal and play it on the screen. I get up, brush my teeth, turn the computer on, do unspeakable things on it, then turn off the computer, put my mattress down and sleep.

What a life, eh?

I still haven't called my bank, my lawyer, my family physician, my dentist, my children*, my ex*, my internet service provider, my mechanic*, my priest*, my knitting group*, my insurance co*, and my ex-pat membership club* with the change of address. The Cops** know it, I changed my driver's licence, and the medical insurance co.

* There were exactly seventeen reasons for each of the ones with a star why I haven't called them yet; the first reason was that they don't exist.

** Watch the capital "C". Now, this is respect.

I hate packing and moving... I have not done moving personally but I was helping my elderly clients (Volunteer) moving from one apt to another. No fun... Good luck to you!

Geeze, could they not let the old couple just stay? If it was important for someone to let them live in a different apartment, just take the new apartment where the old one was, and take the old one to where the new one used to be, and let the poor hapless elderlies stay in one spot, fer crying out loud.

The last time I moved was having everything packed and strapped on a 16ft flatbed trailer. The time before was a family of 4 with the large Hertz Penske truck, and a car hauler trailer that was converted into a horse trailer because the damn thing wouldn't pull the funiture and boxes.

Thanks Krupa, I like starting my day with a grin! I know someone probably has a bridge I can buy too...I needed something to pack the darn thing in. My late hubby and I built it together...also the light keepers house but I gave that to two of my ex grand daughters.

Aweeeee...... this thread brings back memories of the last time I moved.I still chuckle when I think of it. Lemme' share........

I had to move out in a hurry of my last apartment (discrepencies with landlord). I grabbed the place I'm still in now on a whim. I had no money and no one really to help me. I was haulin' **** on a bus! A co-worker told me not to worry, he would show up with some buddies on the following Saturday and get it done for us.
He showed up with a Semi -truck and about 4 local bikers at 9am Saturday morning! I was completely moved in about 6 hours. All it cost me was a sheet pizza ,bucket of wings and a case of beer! laugh

LOL hey Mikey, I move in my bed just fine!! Left side, right side, awhile on my back....all with my feather pillow securely in my arms!
Thanks though sweet man, I know you would help if you could. Actually I'd bet I could have lots of Mingle help if distance weren't a problem.

You are all the best!

If you need smaller boxes and such, go to usps.com and order their flat rate boxes. Several different sizes, ans all are free. Tape and labels are free, too. They're not intended for uses other than shipping, but what they don't know won't hurt them.
