Topic: Blue Screen of Death??? ... YIKES!!! | |
---|---|
My daughter just got the blue screen on our Dell Windows XP 2000 today.
Each restart, it remains. I'm a tech dweebtard, speak slowly as if I'm as techno challenged/illiterate as I am really am ... ![]() I will say that I JUST had it cleaned at Staples one week before this ... hmmmm!? Also, her sights are Youtube, Gmail IM, AOL mail and Deviant Art. She never clicks on links and cleans the PC after each use, then runs our Comcast spyware. There is a firewall. Windows Explorer. Whenever I defragment it, TONS of memory is open! Blue screen READS: Windows not successful. Check to be sure you have adequate disk space. If the driver is identified in the stop message (Say what???), Disable the driver or check w/ the manufacturers for driver updates. Try changing video adaptors. Technical info: 0X0000007(0XC0000005, 0X805A0180, 0XF8B5B1E4, 0XF8B5AEE0) ( ^^^ ... Unsure if they are O's or zeros ... I entered these as zero codes.) Check with your vendor for any BIOS updates. Disable BIOS memory options such as caching or shadowing. If you need to use safe mode to remove or disable components, Restart your computer Press F8 to select advanced startup options, And then select safe mode. |

usually when that happens you would have to restart everything from the get go on your computer.. meaning starting over from the beganing.. like reinstalling the operating system? Well ... That's a thought ... or to restore ... BUT ... my daughter would lose so much of her unbacked up artwork, literally reams!!! ... ![]() AND! ... Don't know how to do that safely, or if that really is the juncture I'm currently at ... Need the solid techies to weigh in, but I appreciate any/all comments and support. Thanx SO much... ![]() |

Also, of note ...
Already had a blue screen and it WAS certain death. That was a year and a half ago, 3 years into the computer's life ... warranty covered it and DELL installed a new hard drive. So, this hard drive is not quite 2 years old, the entire computer is 5 years old in December, as I recall. I've no longer any warranty remaining. |

Unplug all devices from your computer except for your keyboard, mouse and monitor & try booting again.
If that doesn't work, hit F8 a bunch of times right after you turn your computer on until it gives you the option to boot to safe mode. If it will boot into safe mode, plug a storage device in (external hard drive, usb flash drive, etc.) and back up your important data to it. Then, either take it to a reputable shop & get it fixed right, or reload your operating system once you have your data. If you paid to have your computer fixed a few weeks ago, see if they offer some kind of warranty for their work. They may fix it for free. Good luck ![]() |

I'll go attempt that right now and report back!!! She said it did boot into safe mode but began to lokk like it was 'melting' and she turned it back off ... ![]() The PC was just checked, cleaned, etc as a free promo at Staples. Nothing was found ... I'm just a lil wary that this happens a wk after I'm given an all clear on it, seems ... fishy in timing, yanno??? |

I'd have to see what you mean by melting, but that sounds like it may be a bad video card, or if it's onboard video, bad ram memory. If it does the "melting" thing again, take a picture of it and post it here. I could tell with a photo if it's a video card problem or not. Did you install any new software recently? Maybe a new antivirus or something? Were any changes made just previous to this happening? |

The only thing plugged in, other than the monitor, mouse and keyboard (samsung monitor, microsoft wireless) is the ethernet cable that is split from my router to my apple, and back to her PC . That is the ONLY new change, 1 wk ago also: ethernet from comcast modem to router to a split ~ ethernet to both computers. She does download mp3s from a site called 'beemp3'. No other new software, downloads to my knowledge. When she cleaned pc, then ran spyware yesterday, she says it said there were 'some' (sigh, kids!) trojans and she quarantined them. Ugghhh ... she just now tells me! |

Since it's booting to safe mode, try this:
Click the 'start menu', click 'run', type MSCONFIG and click 'okay'. This window should come up: ![]() Click 'Diagnostic Startup' then click 'okay'. Reboot your computer & see if it comes all the way up without the Blue Screen |

I'm on it! BRB afterwards ... THANK YOU!!! ...

Report back:
HMusikMan ... Actually the screen gave me the option of starting up at the last time all was well, and I did... Normal startup then ... ![]() All is back and seemingly normal. ? Should I still run that last diagnostic startup you mentioned? I've got it up on her screen, and will await your hopeful response, if you are still here that is Feelin' as if I just missed a nasty bullet... ![]() Thanx again, ever SO much ... xox ...Kate ... ![]() ![]() |

You boot up into the "last known good configuration" mode. Glad it worked for you! You don't need to do the diagnostic startup now. Just run your antivirus & antispyware programs & remove any found.
Sites like beemp3 are not safe & should be avoided. You may think your downloading a music file & end up with porn or a virus. |

Of course, I continue to tell her that ... AND? Oh, yeah, she obviously listens well, not! Hopefully this put the fear of losin' her beloved pc into her!!! We will see, sigh! Doubt it really ... We only stopped sharin' it a week ago ... She's on a learnin' curve that is part and parcel of a mothers often expensive journey! She is absolutely fuming at the mp3 news as we speak, she so loves music (apple near the tree and all) ! Aside, just had to buy a new orthodontics retainer this week. Any safe FREE sights to upload music from ??? Thanx again, my hero ... Salute!!! |
