When it comes to 'cheering a sports team' there is a question of 'good sportmanship'. Some people can cheer their team and still have respect for the other team. This is one of the things I think sports for kids should be all about - learning to excel, to use competition to push yourself to greater heights, while respecting the opposing team.

It can be done.

And a person can have a special love and loyalty to their country while also respecting other nations, and loving and respecting the people from other nations.

But in both cases, some people are more interested in hating on 'the other side'.
