sorry dude didn't read the first line properly

next question do you cheer your team at an event who's knowledge you dont posses

ill give an example to explain-
in India the sport is cricket is watched and followed but even if a person doesnt know how to play the game they will cheer for there home team.

me on the other hand will either not cheer if i feel the other team is better just as if there were 2 neutral teams playing

who is right??

My child plays sports. I cheer my child's team - even if my child's team may not be the better playing team.

I go to baseball games. I always cheer my team. They are representing my city.

well this is my big post on mingle hope i get a good response!!

patriotism the word itself tells us that a person should be proud of his/her country . but my question is why? doesn't it evoke prejudice towards a person of the same nationality. shouldn't a person be judged only on the bases or his/her merit should we join UN peacekeeping forces instead of armies. what is even more surprising is the way people openly discriminate on this grounds. i am from india and it is one of the most patriotic country which is Hippocratic as they will cheer india in any sport despite no knowledge but still will not pay tax and other things as follows rules. now it's not respecting your country that is a problem when i say i am not proud to be an indian doesnt mean that i am ashamed to be one. sure i would no doubt prefer to be born in a country like the US. so give me your views people i would prefer any response which add to my understanding of the world.

thank you

during world war II many people lost there lives because they though they were fighting for their country but in fact now we know that it was just a person's individual reason's

if soilder's are educated they should fight for who is right not just blindly give there lives just because they live in a particular part of the world.

This is sure an intersting thread and I'm sorry I missed the opportunity to comment on it this morning.

You talk about WWII....A friend of mine's Father took part in the Allied Forces D-Day landing at Normandy. He was telling me a story about the first German soldier he killed. He recalled how he walked up to the body of the young German soldier and noticed his belt buckle. Written on the buckle in German was "God is on Our Side". He thought to himself, "If God is on their side, who is on our side?"

depends who is right if Pakistan have a legit reason i will support them and stand against India.
my point being i will stand by that side which according to me is the right one not just making decisions on the fact of which part of land i am from.

Are there still wise men like you around ?.

To me, not respecting one's country means that one is ashamed of it.

The country that I live in is MY country. I respect it and want the best for it. I respect my country and want it to succeed.

That does not mean that I feel prejudice against other countries.

To me, not respecting one's country means that one is ashamed of it....

boy oh boy...does that sound familiar...Obama makes that speech over and over and over again...he just made it again today at The UN...do you know why Kadahfi said "...I wish Obama could be President forever "...because they have the same common interests....they both HATE America...

To me patriotism is love of country and support for it. It does not evoke prejudice. Americans are the most generous people. They are always first to help another country in need. We open our doors to people from other countries offering education, employment and opportunity. We are a diverse nation of many people and it makes us strong.

Kadahfi is a disturbed man, sadly. If you bothered to listen to the whole speech he went on to blast many things that the US did in the past. It was as if Kadahfi hadn't heard a word Obama said. Kadahfi was supposed to speak for only 15 minutes, but rambled for one hour and a half. While many walked out leaving him speaking to empty seats.

Folks walked out on the president of Iran as well.

I liked Obama's speech. Obama said nothing about being ashamed, but you go ahead and twist away....

Regardless if it is prejudice or not I am very patriotic about England. No matter what age I would pick up a riffle to defend it just like my father before me in WWII and my granddad before my dad in WWI

All these nationalities evading to share the benefits without contributing are not welcomed in my book. However the contributing members of the society without any prejudice to their colour or creed are considered my brothers and sisters and my fellow nationals.

i disagree, people do treat people differently if he is from the same piece of land forget patriotism just answer this do you treat people differ or have double standards when it involes 2 countries out of which 1 is your own

reason for post-seen enough discrimination , read in history how people are fooled into fighting for an individuals goals by using patriotism

Your confusing patroitism for bigottry . It happens yes but its not suppose to . in democracy we never agree 100 % about anything . but we work it out till we canm come up with or with out something we can agree on . at least that was the way it use to be ..

God doesn't choose sides in war...we are all equals. Seems silly when so many wars are fought in Gods name. I wonder of God weeps..

The funny thing is, that in America today, those that oppose the President/Government and everything he is trying to do consider themselves Patriots. Those that support the President/Government and everything he is trying to do consider themselves Patriots.

If you would ask people on the street what it means to be a Patriot, I suppose you would get many different answers.
