When I was growing up the main source of heat was wood in our house. We always spent the entire summer and fall cutting and splitting wood. Valuable lesson was learned......

I must say I can remember not having much as far as clothes and toys remember when I was in 4th grade only having a handful of clothes to wear. But they were always clean and we always had a roof over our head and food on the table....... So I can't say that I've ever been as poor as I have witnessed through my eyes as a child how others lived. What we lacked was nothing compared to what others did not have. So actually I was rich in more ways then one..........

Even when very poor, I've really been soooooooo blessed!
The worst? I lived in my truck at 15 and put myself through High School, while managing a donut shoppe and workin' at Safeway. Friends let me come over for showers, have a family meal and so forthl. I was many a parent's favourite visitor! I even had my own closet at one friend's house. Of course her big sisters always stole my clothes, but who was countin'? ... I had ordered a new truck to be built at the Chevy plant. A month before it arrived, my entire $1000 down payment was stolen by a junkie woman that I'd mistakenly tried to help. I had to recoup it in one month in 1976, uggghhh! I ate a great deal of snickers and donuts, as they were free. And? I did it! All was so hard, yet I still maintained straight A's. Supernatural help methinks and knows!!! ... Single parenting w/out ANY support has also been a real challenge ... Still? Still blessed!!! Here is to better times for all those that find themselves oppressed and suffering. May THE miracle be upon them/us !!! ... |

pretty much living in a crack house You lived in my house too? took me forever to get everyone out! Seriously....figured out how to survive on a bag o taters, loaf o bread and tub o buttah (just a pun) for a month....God I hated Denver...after that, being homeless was practically a vacation. Glad the past is behind me. I may not be wealthy (that is for damned sure) but, I now can truly value the simple things in my life. |

I am truly grateful for everything I have and who I have become. I like to keep those days fresh in my mind just to remind me to stay grateful. It is much prettier on this side of the tracks Glad we are on both on this side now |

I have never not been poor. We are all just a step away from ramen noodles.
Well, I imagine if ya wanna count homelessness, and not eating for a fewdays,at a time, and sleeping in places that shouldnt be slept in. |

I am reeeeeeally grateful that I now got a grip on things. But, I am glad for my screwed up past. It gives me a point of context. Now, when I wanna gripe about the petty things that don't go my way...I can look back and realize that things ain't so bad. |

In fifteen days I'm homeless. Too many motorcycle wrecks in one year. On the sixteenth day I'll turn 57. I think it's gonna be a freakin' adventure (at least I hope so). Stuff happens. I've had it all and now I won't have anything. "Made enough money to buy Miami, but I pissed it away too fast" (Jimmy Buffett). I'll still be me and my God will still be God. Just gotta stock up on toilet paper - that's one thing I gotta have.

Hope you don't take offense to that. I was leery to post it. But. They are angels, just georgeous. Good work by you bro. |

1987-89....homeless for almost two years, and lived off of things you wouldn't put in your garbage can sometimes, but worked every day and moonlighted as a stripper at night twice a week, but too many other people to help as well, that needed it more at times.
there were 75 vietnam vets in the woods in various places, and i was the only one to make it out of that woods...Gee! our gov't really cares about our service people, yeah? showers were under a hose at a service garage....freezing sometimes, down to 10 degrees....pretended i was under a glacial stream to deal with it. i was the preverbial steak on a garbage can, and i found out who my friends were then..... |

It was an effort and they're Daddy's Girls, but the rewards are tremendous. Also, neither of them knows my dire straits. Ain't nothin' for a stepper! |

Now if I can have your permission to ask the brunette to marry me, that would be great. She is phenomenal. Tell her to come back on this site. |
