How do I make photos private? Do I upload photos first and click some kind of "Private" setting? Or do I just put the URL of my own photo in the email box if I want to senmd them to someone?

Upload your photos and then go to the 'edit photos' section and mark them private. Actually, I think it's on the same page as the upload. |

you click the private button under the pic after you load it
to send to someone right click and copy location and send it to them |

I hope they have this feature fixed, I had to take my private off because people could see them.

Welcome to the forums, Sky_Gazer. One other thing to keep in mind is that in order to make photos private, you need to have at least one public image.
