What is the purpose of life?
Not the meaning... I could give an elaborate answer why I think the way I think but I want to not be on this computer for three hours setting up my argument. I say life has no real purpose. It just exists for the sake of existing. Otherwise there is no reason because in the end everything is Entropy! Nothing lasts forever. So? What do you intelligent people out there have to say about this perplexing conundrum? Huh huh huh ? |

Life is what you make it. It can be nothing or it can have purpose. It all depends on what you chose to do and how much effort you want to put into it.

Life has the purpose you derive as the purpose of your life. It's purpose can be just as simple as to be a positive energy in the cycle or as complex as ending world hunger. You choose the purpose of your life.

Purpose gives life meaning.
Intent creates purpose. Desire creates intent. Reproduction creates desire. Experiencing life is all of the above. We are experiential creatures. I feel that my experiencing life, from the first breath drawn, to the last exhaled is my purpose. |

I personally don't believe life has any purpose or meaning beyond that which we ourselves ascribe to it.

I personally don't believe life has any purpose or meaning beyond that which we ourselves ascribe to it. Agreed . We found ourselves on earth but we were never told why we are here . We keep on guessing until we die . Hopefully with science we will find some aspects to prolong life . |

Live or Die
Human in general either give life (procreate, invent, create) or we kill (animals, humans, vegetable and so much more) for each positive we do we make two negative so thats why in the long run we will lose. |

The Purpose of Life?
What's the purpose of any game? Something to do. |

|
|
The Purpose of Life? What's the purpose of any game? Something to do. Truly. I hear a lot of people say that we are on the Earth to learn lessons. But what then? What happens after we learn all the lessons? What would be the purpose of an eternal heaven? The same question would apply there as it does here. Some people might say, "The purpose of heaven is to serve God". But what would God's purpose be then? To be served? In the end, the ONLY purpose that makes sense is to simply be. Period. What purpose could their possibly be beyond that? When you think about it, this makes an endless stream of reincarntion make sense. An eternal 'heaven' could have no 'goal' since by definition it's eternal. How could it have a 'goal' if it's eternal? The idea of an eternal God who has a "Master Plan" makes no sense because that would imply that God has a 'goal' to reach. But what then? A life that is nothing more than a freak accident can have no purpose at all by the very definition that it's a freak accident. How could a freak accident have a purpose? The only thing that makes any sense at all in terms of 'purpose' is an endless stream of reincarnation. Then the purpose would simply be like Sky says: "Something to do" After all, if we are ultiamtely all eternal spirits what are we supposed to 'do'? Just sit around motionless staring into each other invisible faces and never communicating a thought? What fun would that be? Owl bet we'd all play hide-and-seek with our true nature by conjuring up physical universes in our minds. Then we'd lose oursleves in these lucid dreams and argue over the true nature of our reality and ask what the purpose is of our existence. |

this is not to any one in piticular just my opinion...
I guess that would depend on how your looking at life If your all about you and what you can get what you can feel what you want how you want it ect.. then yea a pretty boring life ...self ish! self centered I look at things or try to ... God centered then puts things into perspective its fufilling to help others to see someone smile helping others loving others giving, sharing, serving while using Jesus as an example of how we are to carry out our lives |

God centered then puts things into perspective its fufilling to help others to see someone smile helping others loving others giving, sharing, serving while using Jesus as an example of how we are to carry out our lives Now I can't deny that most of the reported actions and teachings of Jesus are good "moral standards". But I personally don't think that the "God centered" perspective, as put forth in the Bible, is any better than many other "____ centered" perspectives. |

while using Jesus as an example of how we are to carry out our lives The only problem I have with this is that Jesus isn't around to be an example, and we can't trust the Gospels to speak for Jesus. Some of the things that the Gospels claim about Jesus are nice, other things are not so nice. The main problem of trying to use "Jesus" is an example is that the stories the refer to Jesus also claim that he was the sacrificial lamb of Yahweh. That opens up a whole can of worms that suggests that we should also be adhering to the teachings of the Old Testament, which actually conflict with many of the teachings of Jesus. So the problem I have with "Jesus" is not with the man himself, but with the whole context from whence these stories came. I think many of the "Good" things he taught were also the same things that were taught by Siddhartha Guatama (Buddha), from 500 years earlier. In fact I personally believe that this is where Jesus got most of his ideas since Jesus's moral teaching parallel the Buddha's teachings so precisely. The nasty stuff that comes from the Gospels is the stuff that tries to tie Jesus back into the Old Testament. So the only problem I find with trying to follow "Jesus" is the fact that we have nothing that came directly from him. All we have are the rumors and hearsay that try to make out that he was the sacrificial lamb of Yahweh. From my point of view that has totally overshadowed any actual moral teachings that might have come from Jesus himself. In fact, I can actually say that I believe that I do follow the [umoral teachings of Jesus (at least I agree with them and try to hold them up as actual values in my life). Clearly we all know that, as humans, we find it difficult to even live up to our own convictions 100% of the time. In fact, when I read the Bible and read the moral teachings of Jesus I always find myself just shaking my head in agreement. So it's difficult to actually 'follow' someone I agree with. I mean, how can you 'follow' someone who already agrees with you? The only place where I draw the line is in all the demagogurey that has been added to the gospels to try to make out like Jesus was the sacrificial lamb of Yahweh sent to pay for the sins of man. From my point of view that basically destroys and taints the whole story. So while I continue to think of Jesus as a mortal man who actually denounced the ways of Yahweh, I prefer to actually follow the teachings of the Buddha, which as far as I can see, were precisely the same moral things that Jesus taught without all the demagogurey of the angry blood-thirsty God of Yahweh in the background threatening to cast everyone into hell who doesn't follow his commandments to the letter. Totally ambigious commandments at that that are often the source of bigoty today. So this is why I have problems with following "Jesus". We don't have a clean example of who Jesus was or what he taught. All we have are second-hand hearsay rumors that try to claim that he was the sacrificial lamb of Yahweh. I don't see anything moral about that. |
|
|
|
In other words, if you try to share the teaching of Jesus with people but you refuse to accept the demagogurey that he was the sacrificial lamb of Yahweh, you'll be kicked off the stage as a heretic.
However, if you use Buddha as an example you can teach the very same morals without having to drag the bigoted Old Testament in to the picture. So it just makes more sense to use Buddha as the example. Far less complications. |
