and no I do not mean luggage used to carry clothing and toiletries around with I have heard the term baggage used to describe someone who still has emotional issues with their ex, or legal issues, etc. I have also hear children referred to as baggage, and that quite honestly makes me rather upset, as Children are never anything other than the greatest gift in the world. What's your view on this issue? My view is that "baggage" includes anything and everything that you carry over from a previous relationship that may impact on a future relationship. To me, this could include lingering feelings for an ex, employment scenarios, living arrangements, all kinds of things. Including kids. Now, if someone is determined to ascribe a strictly negative connotation to the term, that's their business. I see it as a neutral, a simple understanding that these are the things that may very well make or break a future relationship. |

Mostly it's about whether your baggage can be stowed overhead or whether you get charged the extra $25 just for bringing it. What is the size specifications for baggage needing to be stored overhead? |

Any unresolved perceived wrongs, hurts or painful experiences that is projected onto others.
A psychological crippling affliction created through a sense of entitlement which, when not fulfilled, plummets the psyche into victim mode....it is manifested through behaviours such as self delusion, denial, aggression, detachment, victimisation or self abuse. |

I always thought when they said they wanted "no baggage" it meant they didn't want you to have any pot on you.

Baggage is going to mean different things to different people. I believe everyone has some sort of baggage. It can be either the good kind that is packed with life experiences that a person's brings to the table that can enhance life around them or it can be the negative kind I.E. I can't ... My EX... You have children...
I have heard children referred to as baggage the unwanted kind. That is fine with me,that just means that we aren't going to be spending anytime together since my children are not considered baggage by me. They are great adults and my grandchildren mean the world to me. I think in the dating world it is mainly referred to a person that is carrying a bunch of issues that they haven't dealt with for what ever reason. IMO |

I'm thinking maybe children become baggage if they are grown and are creating some sort of problem or time restraint on the datee. I don't know what that would be but that's the only reason I can think children would be baggage. Maybe they have a drug problem(can't find any, ha ha) or they need help with their rent. I dunno.

I was thinking it might be measured in years...baggage more than three years old must be checked. |

Everyone has some sort of baggage or they have not had a life.

Baggage is your expectations for your relationships. Each failed relationship raises the standard for the next. We keep looking for someone closer to perfect than the last one. Eventually the standard becomes so high no one will ever measure up. But, we remain lonely. It can be vicious.

I'll say it. Children can be considered baggage, because like luggage, they never go away, they are yours and always will be. It's not bad, I'm not saying anyone's baggage is a bad thing. We all have some sort of luggage to tote around with us wherever we go, but to say that "I don't understand how kids can be baggage," well those are only words that can come out of a parents mouth. They are expensive, loud, and as a foriegner around them, they will treat you like cr@p. I think that often, those that have kids, forget that those of us that don't have them, do not find them near as precious. |

Baggage is what your life was and what as made you the person you are, everybody as some it is just how you deal with your baggage that makes it a good thing or a bad thing. |

I think that often, those that have kids, forget that those of us that don't have them, do not find them near as precious. I agree with you whole heartedly in the case that children are part of the package and will always be there no matter what. And, obviously, lol I agree that this is not a bad thing. However, I have found that judging a persons child is a good way to judge the character of the person themself. For example, if you come across a child that treats you as badly as you suggested, then that only goes to show that there is something either wrong, or missing, in the relationship between child and parent, which goes further to suggest that it may be missing for you as wel if you try to get involved. I have not dated many women with Children, not because I avoid it, but because opportunity hasnt arisen that much. But if I were to find someone with children now, I would not turn away because of it (unless there were like ten children, lol. I cant AFFORD that scenario :-D). Seriously though, a child is a good way to see the kind of person you are trying to get to know. It's not fullproof, but then what is? |
