I know,I was one. Honest truth here no judgement just truth. They have a major issue with the deity of Jesus. They consider Him to be a created being like everyone else except God. Yet the N.T. tells us differently. Their version of the gospels have subtle changes in the text so that it doesn't conflict with what they believe. The Gospel of John is a major problem for them because it clearly states: 1-In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. 2-He was with God in the beginning. 3-Through him all things were made; without him nothing was made that has been made. 4-In him was life, and that life was the light of men. 5-The light shines in the darkness, but the darkness has not understood[a] it. Also: 14-The Word became flesh and made his dwelling among us. They can't comprehend the full nature of God so they try to limit his abilities to suit them. As far as the blood issue is concerned, God forbade the Israelite's from drinking blood in the O.T. & I think they carried their concern over protecting blood forward from there. It's an unfortunate belief because of the needless deaths that have occurred due to a lack of blood transfusions. The only "144,000 are going to heaven" is a total misinterpretation of the text. It clearly says in the Book of Revelation, that the 144,000 are going to be virgin male Hebrews. No J-W is a Hebrew. They think the New Earth will be the desired place to be, when before leaving this world Jesus said He was going back to Heaven to prepare a place for us. Jesus wants us to dwell with Him in His presence, in His Father's house. No one BUT the J-W's translate the verses from John the way you referenced. Playing around with the subtleties of the text like that leads to eternal consequences of punishment. Merely having faith means nothing as far as salvation is concerned. Just what do they have faith in? I know that they place their faith in a small "g" god, whereas, I place my faith in a big "G" God. Meaning, if Jesus isn't God, how could He accept the sins of the world & be found to be The perfect sacrifice. Nothing less than Gos could accomplish this. My question to you, if you had the choice wouldn't you want to place your trust in the creator God for the gift of salvation or a created god? The former is the true Redeemer, the latter is a mere imitation that leads many astray. The 144,000 reference. You have to look in 2 different places in the book of Revelation for the answer. Chap 7 & 14. Here they are: 1-After this I saw four angels standing at the four corners of the earth, holding back the four winds of the earth to prevent any wind from blowing on the land or on the sea or on any tree. 2-Then I saw another angel coming up from the east, having the seal of the living God. He called out in a loud voice to the four angels who had been given power to harm the land and the sea: 3-"Do not harm the land or the sea or the trees until we put a seal on the foreheads of the servants of our God." 4-Then I heard the number of those who were sealed: 144,000 from all the tribes of Israel. 5-From the tribe of Judah 12,000 were sealed, from the tribe of Reuben 12,000, from the tribe of Gad 12,000, 6-from the tribe of Asher 12,000, from the tribe of Naphtali 12,000, from the tribe of Manasseh 12,000, 7-from the tribe of Simeon 12,000, from the tribe of Levi 12,000, from the tribe of Issachar 12,000, 8-from the tribe of Zebulun 12,000, from the tribe of Joseph 12,000, from the tribe of Benjamin 12,000. And Chap 14: 1-Then I looked, and there before me was the Lamb, standing on Mount Zion, and with him 144,000 who had his name and his Father's name written on their foreheads. 2-And I heard a sound from heaven like the roar of rushing waters and like a loud peal of thunder. The sound I heard was like that of harpists playing their harps. 3-And they sang a new song before the throne and before the four living creatures and the elders. No one could learn the song except the 144,000 who had been redeemed from the earth. 4-These are those who did not defile themselves with women, for they kept themselves pure. They follow the Lamb wherever he goes. They were purchased from among men and offered as firstfruits to God and the Lamb. 5-No lie was found in their mouths; they are blameless. Unlike some, I actually don't write something unless I know what I'm talking about. I also double check myself before posting. |

If they don't believe in hell, what do they believe? I don't understand this. It's not in the Bible. No, thanks. At what age did you quit being JW? That's interesting - how they did "disfellowship" to you. It reminds me somewhat how the Amish excommunicate people. I'm curious. Are you a Christian now? |

Unlike some, I actually don't write something unless I know what I'm talking about. I also double check myself before posting. I'll have to get back to you about the Revelation references you mentioned. As far as God the Son, sitting on the right hand of God the Father, why is that so hard to comprehend? A previous co-worker, who was a J-W, had the same hang-up. It's a testament to the brainwashing that the J-W body espouses. They all have to believe exactly the same way or you are out. Look at it this way. You can look at all of the beauty that God has provided for us here on earth. Then look to the night skies & try to comprehend the vastness & complexities of space & you have no problem believing that God was responsible for all this. And yet you struggle with fact of the what, God, being in multiple places as 3 who's. Why is that impossible for God? Jesus said for nothing is impossible for God. Scripture also tells us that 1 of his many attributes is that He's omni-present, that means everywhere. God the Son descended from heaven to become 1 of us to redeem us. Because of God's laws, it had to be this way. He had to possess the very nature of God & the physical attributes of mankind in order to offer himself as the unblemished Lamb of God. And when he died & was placed in the tomb & God resurrected Him, God the Son was raised in human form with an incorruptible body just the way that the 1st Adam was 1st created. But now being the 2nd Adam, He was raised both God & man to redeem all who would believe. Not to nit-pick, but Jesus never referred to God as Jehovah, but rather as His Father or our Father. |
