Topic: ganging up on newbies | |

Sitting at home behind a desk, unseen, is not a license to to say whatever you want to anyone, unchecked, and I don't know where else in our life experiences where that is acceptable either.
My place of employment. Every single day. Well, all I can say is, I feel sorry for you working in that environment. None of us knows the true situations and trials of the folks who post here. If I've learned nothing else from my on-line experience, I have learned this...we all have our own story. I think the mistake that's being made here is that people are confusing the term " gang up " with the word " attack ". Many times, the new person comes in and will make some generalized statement that many, MANY users here don't agree with. Those users then express that they don't agree ( which is WELL within the rules ), without breaking into verbally attacking the poster him/herself, but it's perceived as being an attack because there are so many that don't agree. I have seen very, very few actual " personal attacks " against ANY new person here. If the new person comes in and says something that the majority of uses don't agree with, and then subsequently gets picked apart like a flock of vultures descended on him/her, that doesn't constitute an attack. I have seen personal attacks, many disguised a subtleties, as has been referred to here in this thread previously. Expressing an opinion is well within forum guidelines, but making insulting/attacking remarks is not. Some folks are posting remarks purposelfully just under the radar of the rules and while they may not be directly against the forum rules, they are still discouraging to newbies, and not unnnoticed by the mods/Admin. |

I was more subjected to underhanded planned attempts to exclude me rather than a whole lot of verbal abuse when i first came here. Of course i probably gave back more than i got and looked like the bad one. Sometimes new people come on here being abusive, or insulting, and some of us decide it will be fun to put these people in there place. Sometimes things do get said that are wrong, sometimes it is me that says them. Not always though, sometimes these people just get beat down with sense, and wit, and things dont always get personal. But it is always taken personally, by somebody or other.
Its just the dynamics of forums. Newbies and fools sometimes get a rough time. If one person doesnt step in, someone else will. There is no getting rid of it. But it does also need to be controlled, and thats why all of us who break the rules, new or old, get suspended from time to time. I dont think things are any worse here than anywhere else at all. That being said, sometimes we need to step back and think about how we are acting. |

Well...things like that depend on a few factors that I cannot mention in a thread because that would be against the rules. |

i don't see a problem with disagreeing with someone whether they are a newbie or not...
i mean would you rather we all sugarcoated and agreed with everything they said for their first week in a forum? i will be completely kind and cordeal to someone whether they are new or not but i will not hold back my opinion in a place made for the expression of just that. now if its being done just to be a bully and a jerk then there's a problem. and that needs to be cut off. |

Robin...the ones who ganged up on me were: Lex, Nusalor, Whisper, Marie55... You know.....the really mean ones!!! Girl, you had me going for a minute there, geeezzz!!!! Teach me to come in at the end of a thread. I saw my name and thought "Who did I/we attack???" -- so had to read back a few pages. Phew!! All better now. I am thrilled to be included in the group that "ganged up" on you. |

I am so happy no one ganged up on me....I would have been very upset!! luckily i never got Initiated either but if i would have,i wouldn't have sat back and taken it I think that new people that make bizarre or mean statements get blasted. Now you would never do that!! nah i wouldn't do that and i don't bash anyone but if i see they're about to get it,i will at least warn them and then i sit back and watch what happens |

I don't attack people on here. I have, in the "olden days" before we had mods, broken up a few fights, but I come on here to have fun, not fight.

Expressing an opinion and/or disagreeing are worlds apart from "ganging up on a newbie" as is the topic of this thread. Expressing an opnion within the forum rules is not only condoned, but encouraged. "Ganging up' on a newbie or anyone else here is against the rules...period. |

"Ganging up' on a newbie or anyone else here is against the rules...period. thats exactly what i was trying to say. :p lol I have noticed though there are a select few on here that find that if you disagree with their opinion they immediately take it as a personal attack. I've since found myself avoiding threads with them even posting. in a perfect world, all opinion would be respected. but its not always like that. but yes you said exactly what i was trying to say. its unfair and wrong to pick on anyone like a freakin kid in a schoolyard. its like grow up. lilbug you changed your pic! its cute. and i'm not just kissin mod @ss. lol |
