Topic: Weapons | |

Hey, Nus
Good to see your posts. In some ways, I think, we may be closer to what Alex intended. It started off about being about weapons, and has evolved into an inquiry about who is most qualified to lead, including in situations of conflict. The intermediate realization was that if simply got rid of weapons, human beings would simply re-invent them. So the issue is not so much the existence of weapons, but the wisdom and qualities of people who govern and influence situations which in the past led to the use of weapons. At least, this is how I am seeing this discussion.... Oceans |

It surely invites the rambling of mind into the impossible sometimes,
but I do think, with this rambling into the impossible we get nearer to the solution and if it is only by elimination. |

Traditionally, it has been the mother's role to teach and to guide. In
ancient times, men were fighting wars and battles and the mothers were at home teaching the children. Growing boys did not have an example to look upon, but the stories told, so naturally, it was the mother's job to teach them how to be men, as many men did not return from these wars. We teach our children courage in front of adversity, help them to grow being loving men, and respectful of others and of women. In my case, I have 1 son, whom I am raising by myself, with my two girls. He has no contact with his father so he has father figure to look upon. It is my duty to make of him a man, a gentleman, responsible, caring and loving, who in turn will teach the same to his offspring. He will need courage and honor to pick and fight his own battles, and he will need wisdom to choose his weapons well. I can only prepare him up to a level, and after that, pray. That he will come back with his shield and inside, but if he did, to ahve met his challenge honorably. |

Well, my son grew up with his father, but when it came to serious
matters he rather turned to me for advice. Why? I have the heart of a mother and sure hope I still have it. |

Oceans and invisible,
I agree with the path this thread has taken. But the solution of replacing an old set of values based on war with a new set based on the harmony required to live in peace, is as old as many ancient religions. Were that it was as simple as pressing a reset button to go back to the factory specs. Many would argue our "specs" include the ability to do evil inately. |

corrections: he has no father figure to look up to.
correction: to come with his shield and not inside |

I know what you were talking about, there was no doubt about it.
I do think that boys or children know where to find the love they need, and if a boy looks to his father, it is there he finds what he is looking for, same if he looks to his mother. |

it is a law of survival of the species. In order to keep balance the
stong eats the weak, and so creating a vicious cycle. In the case of humans I believe that as long humans have the capacity to think, rationalize, make decisions, eventually, the thought process will bring us back to creating tools for survival and to protect those tools and our lives they will be turned into weapons... |

I know, it's a vicious cycle, and the task to break it might be beyond
us, but we can always try, can't we?????? |

I believe all the "tools" are already there and they exist in each and
every one of us. It's just a matter of the ability or desire to use them. Some may be blinded by hatred, greed and/or a multitude of other factors. I honestly believe there is good in everyone. It may take some doing to find it and bring it to the surface before it can effect a change in thinking. They're all learned behaviors and there has to be a way to teach in a more positive light. The idea of someone being born "evil" or with all the negative traits we all seem to have is BS. We as humans, men and women, are all in this together and it is our resposibility as a collective to make these changes. To put the onus on either gender is unfair although I agree that throughout history it has been rather one sided. It doesn't have to be this way. |
Do you have a license for them??????????
no lori ...all guns...poof. black market white market theirs and ours
and everything in between...right in the middle of whatever POOF! lol inless of course your hands are bionic and have built in capacity...then it would be defective.... you'd have to resort to your wits...i think you'd be fine..heh heheee |
As long as the bad guys have guns, so will the good guys..
not a license per se...but as a martial artist, i had to register them
with the police department. i remember a police man telling me that my pocket knife was too large...and that if i used it, i could get charged with "assault with a deadly weapon"...i asked what the difference would be from just getting charged without it, as a black belt. the answer? it's the same...SO i have a certain fascination with steel, and i carry it regularly. i hate guns, and always have...and i wish they didn't exist. |

thats true, but they do!
well, when this thread started, we just tried to imagine what happened
when all guns just went ..POOOOOOOOF........ so I'd say you can keep your hands. but seriously, I do think they can be very lethal weapons if you choose them to be. |

i am a pacifist, through and through. i do not believe in violence,
physical or otherwise. in fact...i believe the best form of self-defense is to avoid the situation in the first place. |
well, if we all would think like that, what a paradise on earth we could
have. I do not believe in violence either, but sadly enough it happens every second in some part of this world. |

i know, andrea...it's saddening.
i only point that out because there are people that automatically think that a person that has training is a physical person who handles situations aggressively...when in reality, they are LESS likely to fight. |
