you know rock.......when I lived in california, the best dressed women seemed to be the overweight black women. Beautiful outfits. I have no idea where they shopped but they always looked like they were dressed to the 9's. You dont see alot of that here in overweight women. Here its if you are overweight, usually a really loose top and baggy pants. But the women in cali.....knew how to "work it" specialty shops, seamstresses, and online these days. they are oldschool when it comes to attain what they want and i envy that. I used to make sunday suits for alot of them. they would bring me a hat and say "match this!" lol you're very right. i see that alot up here. they look very powerful and fantastic. |

I wore pajamas everywhere locally, when I lived on Fort Lauderdale beach, I felt like Mrs. Howell.
I was just plain arrogant. |

Rock on! That was a great read, and so true! You cant just buy a bigger size and have it look ok, clothing fits us curvy ladies much differently and should be adjusted accordingly

The letter was ok until the "just sayin'" part . That phrase is so overused these days.

Love your letter.........I just looked at the Torrid website.....it's been awhile since I've been there. You could have included the purple lame' leggings they have on clearance. Not sure what they were thinking with those....
I must be getting old....a lot of their clothing just didn't appeal to me. But yet, I'm not in the frumpy dept. just yet either. sigh. Edit: Oops....it must have just been the clearance clothing that was unappealing....the newer lines look better! |

I sometimes use a site called woman within. A lot of their stuff looks like it's for grandma's... But for work khaki's and bathing suits for people my size, it's great. Recently, old navy started having plus size stuff in their online catalog too, which is nice.
You'll find this funny, I actually love plaid bermuda shorts......but I can't ever find a pair that fits right......the legs are always huge! I might need to start emailing you for clothing advice....you seem to know what would work! |

LOL i understand. i actually found a fantastic tankini set at target in my size. but their newer bathing suits are all high cut at the neck. :( if you must wear the bermudas... pick a mute plaid. not an intense one. soft colors. and hey.. try the torrid ones. they might just fit. they are all on clearance. :p old navy's been selling plus sizes online for years. you just gotta know where to find them. and some flagship stores.. carry it in house YAY! lol |

sometimes i have to be mean to my favorite store. i figured i might as well piss off someone tonight with this but i couldn't help laughing at my own email to the company who i've supported for years as a fat girl who loves fashion. so here is my angry letter to my favorite store: Dear Torrid, Apparently once every year or so, I am required to send you a letter do remind you who your demographic is in this world. I've put up with your abuse of espadrilles, I've accepted your necessity to clothe fat girls in bermuda shorts, and I've even accepted your need to sell out to brands such as Ed Hardy raising the prices on everything you sell in the store to match his. But today you've crossed the line. I opened my email today and found a picture of a lovely curvy fat girl in a romper. not just any romper, a freakin micro romper. What the hell were you thinking!? First of all, I'd like to remind you that if a fat girl is not wearing stockings, pantyhose, or tights of any kind, her upper thighs look like bean bags. seriously. I would also like to remind you that when we walk, said thighs attempt to start camp fires. And only you can prevent <s>forest</s> crotch fires. I would also like to let you know that rompers in any way shape or form should be left back in the early eighties. I hate to be the reality check fat girl in your corporate life, but not everything you see in last year's vogue should be worn by curvy women. Rompers are very dangerous. they look fantastic if they are wideleg panted, or even made into a coolock kind of short with a tube top princess waist. But do make them booty shorts in some crazy shimmery stretchy dark denim makes me wonder if you're trying to turn us all into hoodrats. and I can't just abide by you convincing the young and impressionable that its cool to be a hoodrat. Whats next? stencils to teach them how to paint on crazy chola surprise eyebrows? fire that buyer. I'm just sayin... formerly yours, yas angry shopper formerly known as loyal shopper (this was originally posted on my blog in which i decided to just email them and let them know how i feel) But...but...I LIKE crotch fires! Seriously! Who the hell don't? |

Too funny OP YEAAAAA! If more women would speak out I think we might get offered better.
I swear I am ready to give up and start sewing again but a lot of the fabric you can find is garbage too. Then when you do you can't match thread, binding, or zippers, and buttons because what is reordered is done by what comes up on a computer that says it was sold in the last 12 weeks rather than experienced instore buyers. Garments with such poor fit and construction, Zero style, and miserably uncomfortable it is no wonder some people give up and wear Pajama's or their next cousin colored undershirts and knit shorts. Maybe that is what we (I am guilty too) get for buying imported clothes at throw away prices from "slave" labor. I know people all over the south in particular that would be glad to go back to work making quality clothing if people would buy "Made in America". Think of all the oil we could save if we didn't ship our raw materials out to have them shipped back in. |
