I still say they should raise the taxes on lattes, bottled water, and mini vans. Let them take some of brunt of this too. Give it time, they're moving slowly and taking it onto the "less" appealing population. Start with cigarettes, move to alcohol, guns, so on and so forth. We are effectively becoming a prison state...so a perfect time to say "I told you so"...

I just had to grab a pack of Marlboro Mediums, not because I smoke them (don't personally care for them)...but because of the package. "Medium" does not mean safer. It refers to taste. "Mediums" won't help you quit smoking. --For those of you that need to be reminded... oh i thought mediums was a size thing. It is, but I find it funny that they have to remind us that this particular cigarette isn't healthy...which only means someone picked up a pack of "Mediums" and said to themselves "this is healthier/I will quit smoking if I smoke these"... |

And here's the thing, too. They're taxing the hell out of cigarettes. All fine and well, but. Why not tax everything that's bad for you? You'd make a hell of a lot more money off beer than you do on smokes. And McD's and twinkies and and and. All or nothing, I think.

Yeah and it's worse there than it is here. My point is, if you're going to tax things that are bad for you, then tax everything evenly across the board or nothing at all. Everyone has a vice, at least everyone would be taxed equally and everyone could benefit (or not, as the case may be)

When the law goes into affect we will only have Marlboro, there will be no Lights, Mediums, so on and so forth. The same applies to other cigarette brands, Camels will be Camels so on and so forth. Apparently we the people are not bright enough to realize that smoking anything is harmful to our health...so the government is "saving" us once again, yeah, perfect...exactly who I want "watching" out for me... |
