Elderly driver crashes into Wal-Mart
DANVERS, Mass., June 2 (UPI) -- A young woman and her year-old daughter were hurt Tuesday morning when a 93-year-old man drove through the entrance of a Boston-area Wal-Mart. Police said the driver, who was looking for a parking place at the store in Danvers, probably hit the accelerator by mistake when he meant to brake, the Boston Globe reported. "We were fortunate that there weren't more injuries," said Sgt. Robert Bettencourt, a spokesman for the Danvers police. "Considering the time of day, 10 in the morning, they're very busy around that time." The driver said he was not hurt and refused treatment, police said. His wife and three people who apparently suffered from shock were taken to a local hospital along with the mother and baby. The little girl was in a stroller. Police said their injuries were not life-threatening. Tony Mendia, who was in the back of the store at the time, said he heard a loud noise of glass breaking, followed by screams. He saw people running and as he moved up to the front the car and the couple inside. "They were just sitting there very calm. They weren't fidgeting or anything," he said. |

I still like the idea of losing your license at a certain age.

I still like the idea of losing your license at a certain age. why should all suffer for the acts of a few and what i have seen a lot of middle aged people that should not be driving maybe seeing as motor vehicle lead to the death and injury to so msny they should just be banned completely |

IMO, teens should have to go thru a heck of alot more drivers trainin than they do. One semester of driver's ed don't cut it as far as I'm concerned.
IMO, after a certain age people should be required to have to take a driver's road test every so many years to ensure they still have capable skills to be behind the wheel. I don't feel that just doin an eye test is sufficent. |

Just another example of "NOT" enforcing current standards of testing people for driver's license's. Can't fail people, as they may protest. Can't read english...give them a license.
Can't drive properly...give them a license. DRIVING IS A PRIVLEDGE....NOT A RIGHT!!!!!! |

Did a eldery person in California back in 2002 drive into a fruit stand. This is not the last elderly person to do that.
Maybe driving tests given to drivers over a cretian age to ensure they are safe to be on the road. In addition, raise the driving age to 18 from 16 to prevent accidents during rush hour traffic because teenagers will hotdogs in the presence of thier buddies. Other day walked to buy groceries saw a high school kid hotdogging in a pickup truck with fullsize coach tied down with bungle cord. We all know that the kid would not bother hotdogging if it was just him in the pickup truck. Elderly driver having accidents are less dangerous or common than 16 to 17 year olds doing stupid things while driving. |

Can't drive properly...give them a license. DRIVING IS A PRIVLEDGE....NOT A RIGHT!!!!!! that is an opinion if driving leads to your happiness it could be considered a right as defined by the declaration of independence certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness. which is also an opinion but i do have supporting documentation |
