Donald Coffey Jr. died Saturday morning at a Houston hospital, less than two days after the boy was struck in the head by shotgun pellets, Liberty County Sheriff's Cpl. Hugh Bishop said. News That Stunned Us Liberty County Sheriff's Office Texas authorities say Gayle Muhs and his wife, Sheila, shot a 7-year-old boy in the head May 7 for supposedly trespassing on their property. Donald Coffey Jr., who had been off-roading with three other people roughly 40 miles northeast of Houston, died two days later on May 9. The two were charged with second-degree felony counts of aggravated assault Sheila Muhs and her husband, Gayle Muhs, both 45, were charged with second-degree felony counts of aggravated assault in the shootings Thursday. They were being held at Liberty County Jail with bail set at $25,000 each and had not yet retained an attorney, Bishop said. Bishop said the district attorney could upgrade the charges to murder on Monday, but investigators were "still trying to get the circumstances behind the incident." The boy, his 5-year-old sister, their father and a family friend were off-roading near a residential area about 40 miles northeast of Houston when they were shot after stopping so the children could go to the bathroom. Authorities said the couple fired after they mistakenly thought the group was trespassing on their property. Bishop said the area includes a dirt road, trees and overgrown brush and that it wasn't uncommon for people to go off-roading there. The Houston Chronicle reported that a sign in front of the suspects' home reads: "Trespassers will be shot. Survivers will be reshot!! Smile I will." Liberty County Chief Deputy Ken DeFoor said Sheila Muhs fired a 12-gauge shotgun once, then handed it to her husband, who also fired once. DeFoor said Sheila Muhs then called 911 and told the dispatcher: "They're out here tearing up the levee, so I shot them." DeFoor said the levee belonged to the subdivision and was not private property. Bishop said there was no indication the unarmed victims did anything threatening toward the Muhs. Donald Coffey Sr. suffered a pellet wound in his right shoulder and his daughter, Destiny, suffered a wound to the elbow. The family friend, 30-year-old Patrick Cammack, was in serious condition Saturday with a head wound, Memorial Hermann-Texas Medical Center spokeswoman Alex Rodriguez said. http://news.aol.com/article/texas-trespassing-shooting/472454?icid=main|htmlws-main|dl1|link3|http%3A%2F%2Fnews.aol.com%2Farticle%2Ftexas-trespassing-shooting%2F472454 Yup, the great results of everyone having the right to guns. |

It's numb minded ppl like them that the anti's feed on. Their lives were not at stake, therefore should not have used deadly force. Ignorance proves to be difficult for safety conscious, responsible, productive citizens to overcome. Unfortunately this young boy was at the recieving end of thier stupidity.

A seven year old young man went out for a day of riding the fun toys and doesn't come home.
How can one justify it? This is my problem with guns. Innocents who lose their lives. This child is gone now having done nothing wrong. Until we can insure that inept individuals cannot get their hands on guns there needs to be more control over this. |

So, were they or were they not on private property?
The article doesn't clearly say. If they were, well, they have learned a lesson. If they were not, the shooter needs to rot in jail. Now, what does this have to do with guns? Would you like that boy to be shot with an arrow, or trapped? |

You don't shoot a seven year old for trespassing unless you have no brain to speak of. |

This has as much to do w/ gun control as it does with Mexico.
What's that? My point. |

If people could not get ahold of guns to shoot seven year olds then this wouldn't happen.

Innocent people die everyday from numerous things besides guns. Just as some people can be proven unfit to drive some should probably be proved unfit to carry a weapon. Even when banned from a certain activities, it does not stop someone who does feels there desires are more important than the law. The only 100% effective gun control would be to destroy every single gun in the entire world. |

If people could not get ahold of guns to shoot seven year olds then this wouldn't happen. As my previous post stated, it is indeed unfortunat for this young boy and his family. It has nothing to do with control. If everyone who owned a knife ran around and stabbed everyone, would you blame it on wally world for not controlling the sale? Why force everyone to use only a spork? It has to do with the acts of individuals, not society. |

Feel for the kid and his family.
With so many unreported, by MSM, homisides that occur daily, the only reason I can see this one is to try to manipulate gun laws. I don't buy into your MSM, sorry. I'm not that easily manipulated. |

If people could not get ahold of guns to shoot seven year olds then this wouldn't happen. If people wouldn't have access to cars, there wouldn't be car accident's either. By the way, it's not the gun who killed the 7 year old. It's the person who pulled the trigger. |

You can prosecute them till high heaven, even kill them and it doesn't bring that child back so there will be no solace for that family. |
