My eldest daughter just asked me what I want for mother's day.....I amswered...'what, everyday?' she went...huh?

What is this crap about buying expensive gifts, and cards, and agonising over what to get?

She's YOUR MUM....love her every day, honour her everyday, and stop lining the pockets of corporate greed.

As a mum, those of us who are, much prefer an honest kiss, a cuddle, a phone call... just because............. rather than a Hallmark card and some flowers...

It could be worse...you could have a mother who lives next door and hasn't spoken to you for 2 years because she got mad at her grandchild. True story.

 I had a Gardening Gourmet Gift Basket delivered to my Mom today for Mom's Day and she just called me to cuss me out for spending money on her.

I kept it practical with a gardening tote complete with tools, gloves, and a few goodies to enjoy. Dried fruit, dipping sauce and pretzels and hand lotion for a bit of pampering after spending time in the garden....and she cussed me out!

I finally told her to enjoy and zippit.

Does anyone have to go through this rigor with thier Mom? She makes me fel quilty for spoiling her... But she loves it!

I wish my mother was alive to cuss me out, I miss her

mother has a small problem there..does not want to be mad at grandchild so she directs anger to daughter instead..not a good situation..sorryflowerforyou

More like pathetic.

The "I can't fix other people" life lesson was finally learned...
Some things are not mine to fix. Sad AND pathetic, though! I can't IMAGINE that kind of relationship with my own two kids. We are very close.

That was why I was okay with moving this summer once the baby flew the nest...but the job dictates I'm still here. I looked at other homes in town but I'd have to "buy up" AND remodel AND would have more space than I need AND I have land to build on in the next few years AND most of all...I love my little place! I decided to stick and if she ever wants to build a bridge, she knows right where I'm at.

Doesn't acknowledge her only granddaughter either...and she is an incredible young woman (23yrs) and others think she's great so it really isn't misplaced motherly love on my part.

I agree with you 100% and both my kids know that my daughter a lot of times since I want say what I want and I'm not one for the flowers( nice once in a while) but would rather go out to eat or a movie just to spend time with them and sit and chat is good enough for me. But I will admit I do see my kids often my son bigsmile comes by at least 2-3 times a week most weeks. And my daughter lives about 10 blocks away so I'm close to my kids and to me that is all I require.

But I do have to admit the homemade chocolate my daughter makes for me and the decorated craft jars touch my heart like nothing else. And the phone calls saying I love you that I get from them both are the gifts that mean the most. Ohhh and the hugs ohhh hell ya love those hugsbigsmile

I don't want "stuff" for Mother's Day either.
I told my two that I've made an appt with a local/excellent photographer and they have to go for a family portrait when my daughter comes into town on the 22nd. Not sure how many times I'll get a chance for that with adult kids and even though that means I'm buying my own gift, it's what I really want - to capture a moment in time. Perfect!
