Stock car racing never really was an ALL stock car. There was always modifications to the engines...suspensions and bodies to make them go faster. The first cars were moonshine runners that built-up there cars to out run the revenue officers. They were FAR from a show-room stock car. A true stock car would be JUNK on the track. It would also be way too dangerous at high speeds and a lot of drivers would die from the lack of a roll cage and the other thousands of safety changes that NASCAR implements to make the sport as safe as possible. If we all had cars built like a Nascar racer there would be only a quarter of the deaths on the highway but the cars would be too expensive to buy. The true stock cars are built as cheaply as possible to sell to the public for a profit. I would NEVER attempt tp race a true stock car. It would be a death sentence for sure!!!
