A revolver is a pistol. But if push comes to shove I'd opt for a single action auto really ? i thought that a revolver was in its own category in and of itself.. That's the main reason some people shouldn't own guns. They don't know anything about them and people end up getting hurt. All handguns are pistols. that is true but not all pistols are handguns. A pistol i always thought only took clips whereas a revolver doesn't so a revolver would therefore be a handgun They are both hand guns (you hold them in your hand) and they are both pistols. One is an automatic and one is a revolver No actually they are not both pistols. Look it up in the wikipedia under pistols. There is a distinction but to the commonwealth world they are synonomous. Most people would consider a revolver in a class of its own. However some people but not a lot, say that a revolver is a pistol. All my life a pistol to me was a firearm that accepted clips such as a classic .45 [/quote What would you call a flintlock firearm that you held in your hand? a pistol muzzleloader or breechloader these would be examples of subtypes of flinlocks i think there are a couple more subtypes in addition to the mentioned ones above

yes indeed a breechloader can be a subtype of a flintlock google it

I personally have never seen or heard of a breech loading flint lock. Breeches are for bullets with a primer. Flint is for striking raw gunpowder and is the primer. Flintlock handguns, muskets, and rifles do exist...I just can't picture how a breech loading flint lock would operate? But, this is the internet...

no need for a gun here. I like little devised orginal homemade traps. You know the kind that will maim instead of kill? But then again where I live nothing is ever needed in any shape or form. peaceful little community ..

Depends on who I'm shooting at.... Ex-wife? Maybe a bazooka or grenade-launcher, I dunno.... to hell with that...just call in an air strike...you know...carpet bombs... In keeping with the topic, i am proficient with either..but for home defense, a double action revolver...Auto's jam...and that is not an option when your life is threatened. I hope i am never faced with that..but i am prepared.

That's the problem too many people rely on the internet, google and wikapedia and such. If you could load a flintlock through the breech do you really think George Washington and all those other guys would have been wasting their time with ram rods and priming powder when people with brown bess's were shooting at them??

Love shooting.... Flint locks...semi auto's, single shots, revolvers, full auto (my best one does 13 per second)....they all have thier appeal. The trick is finding out what you are good with. But, when you get down to the brass tacks... doesn't matter what you shoot......if you can't hit what you are aiming for...the noise should probably scare them away.

Never got to set off a claymore... just the Polish improvised version...it was pretty impressive.
