Lately, I've been getting horribly explicit, xxx-rated emails to my personal yahoo account.
I've been reporting them as spam and blocking them, but they keep coming through from alternate accounts. Is there anything i can do to stop them, short of deleting that account? (It's a really old address and there are many folk with whom i keep in touch from that account). Thanks, I'd appreciate any help I can get. Oh, I've never opened one by the way (I don't open email from someone I don't know), but based on the content of the subject line, it's obviously erotic, porn material. |

Do you use your yahoo account to sign up for online newsletters, mailings, etc? That's the fastest way to get spam, so I've always set up a "junk" account that I use for those purposes (online shopping, etc.).
That being said, the only real thing you can do is keep reporting them. I've noticed that they come in waves, usually when a new group of spam servers goes online. If you set up an alternate account for online shopping or mailings, you should see the spam start to recede. |

Forward them to me lol, nah J/k I had the same problem and tried multiple times to fix it but to no avail. Some add company got your email add someway and they are going to keep them coming, I eventually just set up a new account because my old one now gets about 1,000 spam messages in my Inbox a day and about 3,000 to my spam mail folder.

I get that crap SO MUCH, porn and ads and spam and cons, but it's SO FAR only in my go.com mail!! It's so bad that I don't use it anymore for any other than old correspondence. And their system for spam and reporting junk just DOES NOT WORK.

I get alot of them too, I usually try to just spam them, it helps to cut down a little. I sometimes sell things on craigslist, and I notice I get ALOT more of that nonsense once I've posted something on there.

I dread something like that happening to me because of my child. |

Thanks!
Haha, I KNEW someone was gonna ask them to be re-directed. If you really want to see some 'huge black c0cks at the office' please leave me your email in my private mail here at Mingle and I'll be glad to send you some gay porn! I've never used that account for anything except to communicate with online friends. It's a fictitious account used first to verify people's identity before I pass on any personal or private email addresses (an example of my cynicism of online personalities). I don't order online much, but I don't think I've ever done so through that account. |

I work in IT, and we have a spam filtering service. We get a lot of comments about the amount of spam people receive, so I know how frustrating it is when you get slaughtered with it. But, there are a few things that the email companies are up against that make it really hard.
One, the majority of the spam servers are set up outside of the US, which means that they are not subject to the spamming laws we have here. Two, the sheer number of emails sent - over 183 billion messages per day the last time it was estimated (or more than 2 million per second). Experts guess that 70% of those are spam...that's a lot to try to filter. Didn't mean to go all techy, but this is something I get to deal with daily here, lol, so I have those numbers handy. |

Go under messenger preferences click ignore anyone not on my friends list. That should take care of it. |

I use to get alot of spam mail as well until one day I just took the time to open each one and click on the "remove me from your mailing list" spot. It took alot of time but I have not had any issues with spam since. By the way, I did this at the local library, that way if there was a virus, their computers were the ones to get it...sorry library...

What I found was instead of just blocking that whole address. you just block anything after the @ symbol. see what they do is change the first part like 357snreply@xxxxxx to 568snreply@xxxx so you continue to get them It has worked for me How do I know cyber stalker... she did it all the time now I get nothing.

The spam filter is pretty good on my account, when I log on I don't even read the title or who its from, just hit the mass delete button.
Sometimes I get 20 spams a day. |

I have to agree with the suggestion of having more than one account, preferably on different systems. For my regular account, I use my Yahoo, but for anything bullsh!t, I always use my MSN. Since I rarely ever even open that account to see what's in it, I've had my account "temporarily closed for non-use", and I've had to re-activate it. The upside is, all mail that was sent to it is deleted when they close the account (the main reason they close it is because I never sign into it, and they'll deactivate it if it hasn't been accessed in such-and-such amount of time).

However, these ones aren't going directly into spam; they are getting into my regular email and then of course I get the little pop-up, advising me of a new email, with the disgusting subject line. Go under messenger preferences click ignore anyone not on my friends list. That should take care of it.
Is that just for IMs only, or will that also work on my email when I activate that feature? |

i've found that marking them as spam has worked really well...
i do NOT like to block everyone but friends because i have new people frequently try to contact me... but really, the spam filter has worked wonders for me. web browsing i use adblocker plus! |

For a while, I was getting the best spam ever, and it was making me giggle to read the subject lines. Never opened them, but I would share some of the best subject lines with my friends. Odd, I know, but honestly, anything combining zombies and sex as an enticement is more amusing than anything else!

P.S. I set up a "trashy" email account to use when some site or vendor demands an address which might get a lot of ads and whatnot...
That email address is SUCH a slut. But I ignore it pretty much... |
