Whatever happened to self respect, character, morality
and ethics? This is not a religous question. It is a question
to all the people who think we live in a me world.
For every negative action there is usually an equal and negative reaction, but for every positive action there is usually an equal and positive reaction. No good tree bears bad fruit and no bad tree bears good fruit, each tree is recognized by the fruit it bears. Which do you bear? Do not measure yourself to prominent people, stars, job, position in life or money. The true measure is??????

I dont measure myself to anyone and anything. I measure my life on what Ive seen, done and who I have affected in life.

It all stems from poor parenting, self-centerdness and greed....
People see how much money can be made on tv and in the movies, as
well as from filthy lyrics on cds and the radio... and then they capitalize from it.

I agree with Gypsy, If i was to measure myself with people or anything. What would that make me as a person. As for people that live in the me world. I feel sorry for them. They are missing out on so much in life. I would never want to feel traped. And thats how i see them. I don't hate them or anything like that. I just stay away...

on the contrary-i think poor parenting and entertainment have partial factors to who/what ppl are today. each person determines their own life,character,strenth,actions,choices,outcome,ect...and how things effect them. if someone is <lets sadly say> left in an orphanage or abused home. that person decides if it will hinder or strengthens them-and lives upon the decision! majority of people naturally adjust to past,present,future. the theory of 'bad tree/good tree' also can be one of minor debate. like have you seen ppl and thought-some ppl have all the luck,get favored,hooked-up,pretty,easy lives? and then think of how some constantly struggle,get mistreated,looked over,basically screwed? no matter how hard they try/pray/move forward-its never enough. and sometimes-trying to bare good-turns bad and blows up in our faces! jmo tnx

The Media sets a bad example,
The government rewards bad behavior,
Churches pass the bunch on their failures within their communities and blame everyone and everything else,
Responsible parents are punished for punishing their children when they are bad and needed to be put in their place,
People are giving up responsibility to government because they don't want to be responsible for themselves,
Apathy,
Stupidity,
Greed,
and the whole "Keeping up with the Joneses,' mentality.

That and out 545 some odd Government leaders who think they can run our lives better than we can because "they know what is best for us."

America lost its heart.
Censorship bred part of this problem and now everyone is reaching for greater extremes.
Also our celebrities also set HORRIBLE examples. Would you let Brittany Spears baby sit your children?

The true measure of a man or woman is the person they are inside. If they can rise above the apathy and stupidity and greed then they are better than the other guy. It pisses me off listening to an affluent person whine about how unhappy and unfulfilled their lives are. All that money and they can't do anything positive with it other than seek self fulfillment that they will never achieve!

I would rather be broke and happy than rich and miserable!

Another yard stick you can go by to measure a person by is 'happy factor.' Do they spread happiness or misery? Can ya see where I am going with this?

If you are a good person then there is no need to feel a need for judgment of self worth. You do not have to give everything away to be a good person. A lot of people waste help offered them but if you help ONE person who does something with their lives to better themselves and their community then you have done exactly what the Christian virtues speak of and so many of them get wrong!


Life really is a continuous fight with the environment and ourselves. Choose your battles carefully!

The thing is...and always has been..since creation, that there are going to be opposing viewpoints...that is a given, and it is inevitable, that some folks, are going to disagree. Now this is not quite on topic, as the question was presented, but bear with me, i'll get there...As one poster noted above...lack of parental guidance. Now, i agree that, to a point. Sometimes, folks, people's education is only as good as they were allowed to learn.

Some of us, were afforded the luxury, of learning. Some were not..I consider myself to be highly intelligent. I was lucky, i had a good family..and even at that...i made mistakes..we all do. No one has ever walked this earth, that hasn't made a mistake.

Some people, are just down right mean, no matter their upbringing. Evil exists, people, sadly enough..it always has, and always will.

Some of the best educated people...have been some of the most evil.

It all boils down to spirit, well being, and desire to get along with others...at least the way i see it.

as the old saying goes "smile, its contagious" ~ i believe that if you live your life the best you can and learn from the mistakes you make without blaming others your outlook on life is much brighter... and you will surround yourself with other like minded souls.

still there are harsh,negative, rude, and evil people... its gonna happen and you just have to think... "how can i NOT forgive ignorance???"

I never compare or measure myself...it's impossible to measure something that just keeps growing....I live and grow..period!

The true measure is what is inside of me that shines from within. Of what I give to those around me, and what is received in return (non-materialistically speaking). The enjoyment of the laughter, the sharing of tears, the empathetic feelings towards others, the memories of the years, the ones that are still here, the ones that have departed but still here in my mind, and the love undying. The parts of myself given in my art, the children of my heart, and the new additions to my circle of friends and family.
