Topic: What do you do with the homeless on the streets? | |

Darkowl~ No, this is what I hear from the homeless folks I interview when they are in jail. When I had it rough, I did what I had to do. i still would have helped you.....no matter what. i helped many, male and female if they showed some initiative, which you would...... Thank you! (((((((((((((((((absolute massive soul touching hug)))))))))))))))))) |

I have given money to a few. I have brought one to my job and let him work to make a few dollars. And I have taken the backpacks of a pair of them that were career panhandlers and threw it in the dumpster when they stepped off into the liquor store. Just for the fun of it.
I've landed in a lot of cities with nothing more than a pair of clothes and a few un-damaged brain cells and never have had to beg, borrow or steal a cent from anyone. My pride wouldn't let me anyway. But there are those that are not blessed with confidence and a modicum of intelligence so, if they look like they're really trying, I don't mind helping. Don't bring them home though. They may never leave. |

No, I just said most. Still mean most. Not all choose it... but believe you me.... the darkowls of the world are in the minority more than a roast pig on a Hannakah dinner table.

I don't give money for the ones in Miami save it to buy drugs or alcohol instead.
So food is usually what I give. |

I give them money. I don't care if they buy booze with it. If that's what makes them happy and keeps them sane, so be it.

At first I was thinking tootsie pop.... but then I vacillated.... No, you're right...I'm a marshmallow. Especially when I see a homeless guy with a dog. Because the dog is usually better fed than his owner. That makes me sad...but glad for the dog. |

"Give a man a fish and he will eat for a day, teach a man to fish and he will eat for a lifetime" As you have seen from my other posts I lend a helping hand where ever I can for anyone in need. And while I praise every single food pantry and shelter that takes people in and gives them a hand, I truly believe that they should ALL be taken a step further to the point where they offer help with training and job searches not just food and over night shelter. As others have posted being homeless is like a round robin effect you can't find a home with no job and you can't find a job with no home. When we take steps to help rectify this situation by offering semi-permanent housing and job assistance as well as better care for the mentally impaired that end up in the streets separating the people that can't work from illness or infirmity from the ones that just need a helping hand up. Then we can say we have started down the road to truly helping the homeless.

I've been homeless, all I can say is screw the money...food was far more important then and I had to get it by other means most of the time.

I have seen and experienced far too much to rub anything funny on this subject.
I leave them to thier begging. No remorse. No pity. No mercy. We all choose our paths. I vote we feed em to the local animal shelters. At least dogs and cats who got a legitimate reason for being screwed...I can love. Humans are above being screwed if they choose to be. |

I think everyone has, but I see where he is coming from...with the same token I lifted myself out of the situation and into a better situation. It can be done, just seems a lot choose not too. So I have to agree with Krupa on that. |
