WOW!
What a GREAT bunch... Makes me proud to be on Mingle2! I didn't sleep well last night, got up in pain, but came here and you folks lifted my Spirits! darkowl1 Sorry our VET'S have to go through the things they do.... It's just NOT right! (I am a VET with a disability, as opposed to a disabled VET, but have never gotten anything from the gov't, not even my 10 points of preference for a job.) Whether you all admit to being Christians or not, you all are gonna be in my Prayers... Bro Clark |

It is difficult not to harden your heart in a lot of cases. Case in point we had a man who came into my place of employment on a daily basis always carrying his homeless sign. Often I would buy him a meal or coffee out of my own pocket until one day he happened to come in with over 20 $20 lottery tickets and at the same time tried to panhandle a meal from another customer. I took the gentleman aside and quietly asked him to leave as well as told him he was banned from our establishment. Cold maybe...heartless not at all in my opinion. And if I interviewed him in jail you know what that man would most likely say to me about you and all the others who tried to help him out? "No one ever helped me. No one thought I was worth helping." I hear it over and over and over and over... There was a young man, 21 or so, whose judge and probation officer went out of their way to help him. They worked after hours, personally made calls and called in favors. He called them bytches when I met with him. |

Darkowl~
No, this is what I hear from the homeless folks I interview when they are in jail. When I had it rough, I did what I had to do. |

James 2:13-18 (NKJV)
13 For judgment is without mercy to the one who has shown no mercy. Mercy triumphs over judgment. 14 What does it profit, my brethren, if someone says he has faith but does not have works? Can faith save him? 15 If a brother or sister is naked and destitute of daily food, 16 and one of you says to them, “Depart in peace, be warmed and filled,” but you do not give them the things which are needed for the body, what does it profit? |

Darkowl~ No, this is what I hear from the homeless folks I interview when they are in jail. When I had it rough, I did what I had to do. I can relate to that... I have been homeless, in jail, and a jail Chaplain... (Though not necessarily in that exact order.) You can get all kinds of tales even on the outside... I've got a son that will swear I've never tried to help him, but he won't work, and when he does, he spends it all on women or crack cocaine! |
|
|
|
Exactly. No one ever helped him before. None of the court ordered treatments are attended, probation officers are bytches.... your son's story is like the broken record that is my daily experience.

i would help and if the person was doing something wrong...then that is on him/her. if i give or help...it's with the mind that i am helping someone. what they do with it isn't on me.
my grandmother told me a story that stuck with me (true story or not....don't know) it was during one of the tv evangilists scandals. an elderly woman gave to the minister to help out those in need. when he got busted....the authorities were looking to repay the people that gave back. when they asked the lady if she wanted repayment...she said no. she said she gave with a want to help in her heart and if someone misused it....then that's on them. she gave with good intentions JMO anyway |

Regardless we all know there are those that have choose that way of life and those that were forced into it.
What we must remember is there are the two categories and not let the past harden our hearts towards them all. Grouping them into one group we must at times take a chance and hold out a helping hand. Either it is money, food, a jacket, blanket or offer for work. But never think that they all choose to be there for they don’t. |
