people seem to assume that the president has absolute power....wrong. he has to get past congress....answer to the people...etc

so our constitutional rights will be taken away by who and how?

he has to have it pass congress,(the senate and the house), but we have seen in the past that both sides are willing to pass such bills regardless of what the president's party affiliation. one side might ***** and moan a bit to keep the illusion of fairness but in the end, these bills will pass because they were agreed upon in the beginning.
of course, president bush's own party went against him on the bailout, with the fine artistic moves of shakesperean actors, but inevitably was crushed under the threat of martial law if they didn't vote for it.
my opinion is, give them an inch, they will take a mile.

give them an inch and they will take a mile and make you think it was patriotic!!!

Congress and the president. They natuarally seek to control the populace. Most leaders do. This is for both good and bad reasons. If you didn't know already Congress and the President, has broken the constitution many, many times.

1. Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances.

An override attempt by the current administration by The Fairness Doctrine.

2. A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed.

Overridden by gun control laws. There are at least 400 laws of gun control.

4. The right of the people to be secure in their persons, houses, papers, and effects, against unreasonable searches and seizures, shall not be violated, and no Warrants shall issue, but upon probable cause, supported by Oath or affirmation, and particularly describing the place to be searched, and the persons or things to be seized.

Over ridden by the Patriot Act, as all Liberals know.

5. No person shall be held to answer for a capital, or otherwise infamous crime, unless on a presentment or indictment of a Grand Jury, except in cases arising in the land or naval forces, or in the Militia, when in actual service in time of War or public danger; nor shall any person be subject for the same offense to be twice put in jeopardy of life or limb; nor shall be compelled in any criminal case to be a witness against himself, nor be deprived of life, liberty, or property, without due process of law; nor shall private property be taken for public use, without just compensation.

Overridden by The Patriot Act.

I haven't even got past the Bill of Rights yet...

Sec 10 of article 1

No State shall enter into any Treaty, Alliance, or Confederation; grant Letters of Marque and Reprisal; coin Money; emit Bills of Credit; make any Thing but gold and silver Coin a Tender in Payment of Debts; pass any Bill of Attainder, ex post facto Law, or Law impairing the Obligation of Contracts, or grant any Title of Nobility.

make any Thing but gold and silver Coin a Tender in Payment of Debts...

So Federal Reserve Notes are illegal.

Section 8 of article 1

Gives congress the power to:

To coin Money, regulate the Value thereof, and of foreign Coin, and fix the Standard of Weights and Measures;

To provide for the Punishment of counterfeiting the Securities and current Coin of the United States;

Federal Reserve is not at all part of congress. Nor is it part of the Federal Government. It is a bank, privately owned, that prints our money. Congress is supposed to be the only one with the power to do so...

Ok, did my homework for today.

So this open anyones eyes to the fact that we cannot trust the government to obey it's laws all the time? They have broken many, many more of course. But someday we may need to hold them to it. Right?

The gold clause contracts are impaired since 1933. There is no contract in US since then. Any contract can and will be impaired. Currently, the attention is on mortgage contracts, which are being broken left and right.
