oooooooo I know something really easy and great w/hot coffee while
camping . Its called a dump cake . All you do is dump a can of crushed pineapple , a can of cherry pie filling , a box of dry yellow cake mix and 1 stick of melted butter into a cast iron pot ... cover and cook for about an hour over fire or on a coleman stove . Do not drain the pineapples . Make sure you layer everything the pineapples , cherries , dry cake mix , butter in that order and do not stir it ... |

i've had the dump cake also damn good.
i always take a can or two of spam with me. cut it into chunks & mix it with potatoes & eggs. if ya have a vegetarian or two with ya do the eggs with some green & red or orange peppers & some shrooms. if ya want toast take some aluminum foil put it on a forked green stick, lean it over the fire. put the bread on it & turn before it burns. don't worry about the bug or two that ends up in the mix while cookin. they just add protein. hahaha have a great time campin 2005 |

that is a great idea about prep work before leaving. For the breakfast,
scramble (you said theres gonna be five or six woman?) about fifteen eggs. mix your spices right in with the egg mixture, along with cut up veggies (mushrooms peppers onions etc); put this all in one large container and chill. When it comes time to prepare breakfast, all you have to do ispour it in the skillet and cook. you could even do ommelletes this way. Dothe same thing with potatoes and anything else you cen prepare ahead of time. otherwise, anything you can cook at home in the kitchen you can cook inthe woods as well, and this includes roasts from teh oven (you just have to keep an eye on the fire and make sure it stay steady while the pot is kept either hanging above it or right in the embers). Good Luck and let us know how it works |

I don't know what the other ladies plan on doing for the meals they are
cooking, but doing it this way you get a variety of different meals. its like going to a diffrent resturant at every meal. Thanks you guys there are some really good ideas! I'll let you all know how it turns out. |

Paper bag bacon and eggs and coat hanger toast.
The best bacon and eggs you will ever have. Lay the bacon on the bottom of a paper lunch bag (about 5 to 6 pieces) and crack two eggs over the bacon. put it over the fire, not in it but over it. The fat from the bacon prevents the bag from catching on fire. Gives the bacon and eggs a woodsy taste. So very good! And easy! For the toast, take a metal coat hanger and bend it so that you can rest two pieces of bread on it. Use the curve part ( the part that you would use to hang in the closet) to hang over a long stick and hold it above the fire and let the fire toast the bread. It will be the best toast that you have ever tasted. |

I am so going to try this when we go camping in Sept... |

((((((Mom))))))) Can I come with you? It has been well over 10 years
since I went, and I miss it so much. |
|

I know what you mean whisper. I keep intending on getting the gear
every year to go, but never can save the money to do so :( |

You figure you are going to have to eat anyway. So pretty much all you
need is a sleeping bag, stuff to make a fire with and a fishing pole. I call that pretty easy and not expensive. |

fruits and granola :)
How outdoorsy is that? |

Bacon and eggs and coffee, I think if you're cooking on a campfire you
have to start with that. Some canned biscuits might be good too. Cook the coffee till a spoon stands up in it. Burn the bacon and make the eggs crispy around the edges. Biscuits anywhere from medium done to toasty. Its a camp out, just go for it. |

This is what I ended up doing for breakfast.
items needed: quart sized freezer zip lock bags eggs diced oions, green pepper, red pepper, sliced mushrooms, and cheese. Large pan of boiling water. I crack two eggs eggs and put into a bag and squished them around until they were well mixed. Then I added onion, red and green pepper and mushroom. You add as much of each item you want or don't want. Salt and Pepper to taste. close the zip lock and squish together put the bag into boiling water for 15 minutes. Then just open the bag and put on your plate and sprinkle cheese on top. You have the perfect omlete. This was very easy with very little to clean up. Thanks for all of your ideas! |
