Topic: Is confidence arrogance? | |
---|---|
confidence is a feeling of certainty, or boldness. Arrogance is the same feeling but with superiority. Your way, belief, attitude, etc. is better than everyone elses and you let them know it. So same thing.... as Invisible? So I am incredibly arrogant? or so it appears.... wow!!!!! Shame about that.... There it is. I have read loads of your posts, and I have never, ever, perceived you as arrogant, just a very confident person who knows what she is about. It is sort of a fading line though, because not everyone sees your posts the way I do. |

Doesn't one's perception always dictates the meaning of words...,no?
Confidence is displaying what and who you are. Arrogance is talking down to others because they are not the same. Hmmmm..... so it's a really fine line... depending on one's perception? |

Hi
Confidence is pride in your accomplishments, but still willing to learn and grow. Arrogance is a close-minded attitude. Although the person may be adroit, they might also be impervious to new ideas and further development. The "know it all" approach … Melody |

I just read a couple of threads on the pros and cons of stuff... and in the pros there is confidence.... and in the cons, there is arrogance listed. What's the difference? How do you know which is confidence and which is arrogance? Cause I am confident with who I am... and I type my responses in confidence that they are MY responses... and I get called arrogant all the time.... so which is which????? |

I am both confident and arrogant.
Instead of arguing the grey areas between them, I embrace both. My rules: 1. It's not bragging if you can do it. 2. Ego is confidence without having to think. 3. Honesty is not arrogance. It is simply the truth from your perspective. 4. 'Everybody Loves a Loser and Winning Only Matters to Me' - People often mistake stories of success for attempts at putting them down. |

Well it would be nice for everyone if you could nail something like that down. Unfortunately you are talking about something that is subjective and everyone has their own opinion. What is arrogance to one is confidence to another. As far as your dilema goes,, I would stick to my own guns and take lifes ups and downs with it. Some will call you arrogant and some will see you as confident. Or see me as an idiot.... Truthfully,, is it really that important? I checked you out. You seem like a really fine Aussie Chic to me. You're pretty Hot. Why mess with that? |

Perception.... it is a moment by moment thing, depending on how one feels, isn't it?
I responded in the pros section of the other thread, as confidence being an attractive quality... and my perception of confidence, is someone very solid in themselves.... very clear of who they are and where they are at.... solid in their belief structures...it's a clear and definitive 'smell' about them. Whereas arrogance is all the things above, but they are faking it.... they smell insecure... their low self esteem is obvious through the tiny flickers of body and facial expressions...there's a faltering in their apparent confidence... does that make sense? |

Confidence = an assurance in one's capabilities/qualities.
Arrogance = an offensive display of superiority As far as I am concerned...the difference is the way a person views others in contrast to themselves. You may feel really great about yourself, but do you think you are better? And do you express that? |

I haven't read this thread, so I can shoot a pure, unadulterated answer from the hip.
Confidence comes from the spirit channel, usually humble and imbued w/ self worth. Arrogance is pure, unattractive ego, - and often quite spiteful w/ an air of condascending superiority over others. My spare change, anyway ... 2 cents. Edit scar, sigh on typos... |

You may feel really great about yourself, but do you think you are better? And do you express that? Thinking oneself is better than others is an illusion. There is nothing real to gain from it. Now an offensive display, that sounds like fun. Sometimes people put others down for no reason. They suck. I think there is a definite difference between actively trying to put somebody down and somebody's insecure personality fabricating insults. |
