It rarely has to do with the holiday itself in terms of being cheap, but in terms of do I want to spend the holiday with this person. Gee, you are such a gold-digger.

Any reason is a good reason. The question should be if the relation is over and done do you wait after V Day to break up so not to pass for a cheap bastard.

I know of several guys that have purposly broke up with someone just before the holidays and valentines day just to be able to keep their distance. And so they didn't have to buy her gifts.

Forgot the "For some" any reason (V Day, Xmas, Monday) is a good reason, when their is actually only one reason that really counts (no love).

I think that if I was dating someone where I felt I HAD to buy him something for valentines day, I wouldn't want to stay with him. I want to give gifts because I want to. Not because I have to, to keep him happy. And same goes for me. I never want my man to feel he is obligated to buy me stuff for me to be happy.
