I think it's less the decoration than the presentation.

Perhaps they are for reminding yourself what you picked out together and the time spent at the tattoo parlour while she adores her artwork for years to come remembering who held her hand during the pain of getting it done.. Tattoos aren't for everyone but the people who enjoy them understand...

I got a belly ring when I turned 30 for myself. I happen to like the way it looks when I wear my bikini to the creek and a guy asks me "Ur 41???"

I have a tattoo on my lower back, as well as two other tattoos there is nothing wrong with tasteful tattoos. As for the belly button ring, to each there own, but its the worse place to get a piercing. There are more infections from belly button piercings then any other piercing location! (and yes including the naughty places)

Lower back tattoos on women are uninspired, unimaginative, unoriginal, cliche, and trendy. That's it. Especially if they're over a nice ass. Might as well put a bumper sticker on a Mercedes.

Clean it with antibacterial soap a few times a day until it heals. And go to a competent piercer, because if they are inexperiences and pierce your abdominal cavity, you will have big problems!
