Here is another one from 2002: 11/09/2002 Thurman's son sentenced TRACY KENNEDY , Register Citizen Staff LITCHFIELD - Charles Motusick stood before Judge Alexandra DiPentima on Friday, the day he was scheduled to be sentenced for possessing a handgun while on probation. "You look wonderful Mr. Motusick," said the judge with a smile. "When I first came out, I said to myself, that can't be Mr. Motusick. There is something going on in your life that is working, and I hope you keep with it." In the gallery sat Motusick's stepfather, and his mother, Tracey Thurman Motusick, who nodded her head and wept. Tracey has sat in the courtroom many times in the past. The judicial process seems to always be on the fringes of her life, beginning in the 1980's, when her ex-husband, Charles "Buck" Thurman, was sentenced for brutally beating her nearly to death. The case received national attention when she won a $2.6 million verdict against the Torrington police, when federal judges decided that police failed to protect her when a they were aware of a restraining order. Thurman Motusick has been credited for sparking changes in domestic violence laws. Her support of her son has been unwavering, the judge remarked. Motusick has struggled with a substance abuse problem for many years, his attorney, John Logan explained. It was a failed drug test that prompted the probation department to drop by his house in January, where they discovered a 9-mm semi-automatic handgun, a small amount of cocaine and a syringe. Motusick was jailed for a year of an eight-year suspended sentence in September 2000 and ordered to serve three years of probation, for reportedly stealing $22,000 in gambling proceeds from an ex-girlfriend's relative. He has been residing in a Waterbury drug treatment facility for the last month, since pleading guilty to the gun possession charge. The court agreed to continue his probation as long as he successfully completes the substance abuse program and commits no more crimes during the six-years probation term. If the 21-year-old stumbles, however, he faces serving 11 years in jail and six years of probation. "You have to be very strong, be selective and think about your family," the judge said, before Motusick left the courtroom. |

I saw that movie. The Town got sued and some officers lost their jobs because of their negligence. And because of what happened to her, a lot of things got changed in how Police Officers go about dealing with a domestic violence call.
It was a good and powerful movie! |
