We just got back from several weeks in Sedona, AZ is north of Phoenix and south of the Grand Canyon. IF you love beautiful Nature, clean dry air, red rock trails X dozens, artists, and most days of sun, you will love Sedona. Its only about 10,000 population but I felt at home there, having grown up in a small town in W. Penna.

It can be expensive to stay there, but there are many options nearby in Cottonwood and elsewhere. We have a time share so it only cost us $150. Gotta love those timeshares eh?

You are within easy drive of many sites including:
- Jerome a mountside ghost, former mining town
- Verde Canyon RR .... HIGHLY recommended
- Flagstaff where lots of young people live
- Grand Canyon, about 1.5 hr drive to the north
- Hoover dam and Las Vegas
- Hopi Nation in the middle of Navaho Nation
- Painted Desert
- Montezuma's Well and Village ... worth the trip

I also heard that homes in Cottonwood and Prescott are below $100k ... so great place to look at for retirement or starting a life.

I have traveled a lot, and Sedona is probably near the top spot for me now.

Ity is probably one of the most beautiful places I have been. Were you able to go to Tlaquepague while you were there. To me it was a wonderful way to spend an afternoon.

I totally agree! Sedona is my all time favorite and everytime I am in AZ I go there even if I have to go alone.. Tlaquepaque is also a favorite....on the highway from Tlaq. to I-17 there is a nondenominal church that sits against the side of the mountain.. Visit there if you can, beautiful view and they have a chapel and gift shop.. This is where my ashes will be sprinkled ..

I lived in Phoenix for 10 years, and I would try to make the 2 hour trip up north to visit Sedona at least once a year. I've traveled the world...and Sedona has some of the most amazing, beautiful landcsape, scenery I've seen.

If you arrive at just the right time near dusk, when the shadows are on the red rocks, THAT is one amazing sight to behold.

The downtown area is also great for people into art, and spiritual, paranormal stuff.


They also have cute little cabins for couples, with a hot tub in the room. Set in a scenic wooded area.

I am planning on a road trip this summer with the kids to the southwest as Arizona is the state I most want to visit.

We are hoping to stay in one of the fancy shmancy hotels in Scottsdale or Tempe for a few days and then drive to the Grand Canyon. I'll have to make sure we stop in Sedona as my parents have also told me how much they enjoyed it.

Sedona is OK, I suppose. While the area itself it beautiful, Sedona is just another tourist trap. Reminds me a great deal of Gatlinburg, TN. Grand Canyon, however, is outstanding, as is the Senora Desert Museum, down near Tuscon. If you want to get a taste of Mexican poverty, cross over into Nogales, Mexico. Very sad living conditions.
