I think I'll have to break down and go to a "doc in a box". I have an ear infection that doesn't know when to stop! I think my horrible cold/flu thing from a week ago might have gotten into my ear.
I think we so over use antibiotics. But I couldn't find any reliable treatments online. I did find an article about how ear infections seem to be a modern thing and there were no treatments developed other than antibiotics. I tried the only 'home treatment' that sounded reasonable. It didn't help. But it didn't harm. I am NOT shoving a garlic clove in my ear. Has ANYONE had anything that worked or does everyone here just go get the antibiotics? |

You're supposed to cut a small tube-like section of garlic and wrap it in tissue and place gently in your ear...outside of that you could cut it off or go see a doctor (can't find anything else personally.). |

I would suggest candling your ear, It will get all the infection out and then lymphatic drainage along the neck behind the ear.
You can get ear candles at any health food store. It is easier if someone helps you, since the candle will be on fire. Hope that helps. |

I have always just taken antibiotics. I hope you get to feeling better Moondark. |

It's so small....... I've used ear candles for years. About twice a year just to clean them out. I thought maybe it would pull out the infection too. The only thing it has helped with is now I seem to be getting a little bit of drainage if I lay on my infected side. |

our doctor has told us that ear infections will eventually go away on their own so, unless there is severe pain, i don't bother with antibiotics. i can't even recall that last time we had a subscription in the house (1 adult, 3 kids) for anything.
if you're in that much pain though, i'd go and see a doctor. i hope you feel better soon. |

yeah, sometimes, if it's that bad, you would have to use a few candles...lymphatic drainage next...you'll feel the lymph nodes behind your ear, they should be inflamed

Really! A doctor said that. It isn't horrible pain. It's a very annoying discomfort with some mild pain. And the hollow, hard to hear sensation. It hasn't reached the "I want to shove an ice pick down my ear" stage I remember from my first ear infection when I was 16. My last one was about 2 years ago. It was a really bad double ear infection. The doctor was amazed that I wasn't in horrible pain. I think I evaluate pain differently since I had two kidney stones. I'll try waiting another a little while longer and if the pain gets worse, then I'll go in. |

Ive used garlic oil-warm it and put 3 drops in the ear that hurts- it worked really well on my son when he was an infant- i don't like putting him on antibiotics. you can also try lying on a heating pad- the warmth helps with the pain.

Just do like if you get a jellyfish sting...have some one pee on it.
(I am kidding) I had a lung infection that spread throught the eyes, ears, nose and throat...held off on the doc in the box for as long as I could. that $4 prescription took care of it by the next day. I suppose you may be right about over use of antibiotics in our society but, for me, it was the first one I had taken in almost 15 years. |
