My mainstay and favorite has been oil on canvas. My dad, now passed away got really involved when he retired. He used canvas and wood. I loved his work. I inherited his oils and brushes, got a few of my own, a brush from Paris, and recently some Grumbachers with nylon bristles.

I love the feel of a fresh canvas waiting to come to life. Unable to get any a few days ago, I bought two pieces of wood sold for the purpose of adding color to the surface, although the wood has it's own stories to tell. The bark has been left on both sides of the flat surface. I recently was inspired to go back to painting. Thanks again!

I like your profile! I have only been on this site since 01/09/09 and really just looking for some friendship with people. The winters in Wisconsin are so long. Doing forums on this site helps me stay connected when the outdoor weather says, "Go hibernate!"

I last painted when I did a copy of an artist's painting. He live in the Madison, WI area. My daughter and her friend had taken me just outside Madison where there are some eclectic shops and galleries. This shop had an inspirational painting (impressionistic) with beautiful colors. He also was selling greeting cards with a reproduction of that painting. I asked him if it would be OK to do a copy in oil on canvas. He smiled, said, "Yes!". I enjoy painting, usually taking a blank canvas, swish some blues and whites for sky, some earth color for what is below the sky. Then I look deeply into the painting and develop it. My paintings are mostly of mountains or vast waters with lands in the distant. This painting was the first time I ever 'copied' anything. It turned out pretty good. I wanted to give it to my daughter for a house warming gift for her new house in Cedar Rapids, IA. She liked it. That was a year ago.

Recently, I had a seredipitous moment when I was emailing one of the moderators who had just published a book, "Moving Day" (Lex Fonteyne) He wrote of how it felt to have accomplished that, and it gave me inspiration to start painting again.

Glad I could be of assistance!

I find the creative instinct to be something like a muscle -- one needs to exercise it regularly to keep it in top form....!

I am trying to copy a picture of my oil on wood painting from my photobucket, even though it is just in the beginning stages. I feel like a two year old sitting in a classroom with college students. I don't know how to do it. I have never cut and pasted before.

I like to just let my hands shake like a cracked out chihuahua...

The paintings fall out from the tip of the brushes and pens...

I checked out your other art work. It is very, very good! Thank you for posting; otherwise, I would not have seen them on your profile.

I really, really would like to see some others' art work. Mine, currently in the beginning stages is about distant mountains, and as I am developing it, by brush strokes moving down the wood surface, I have swished some color hoping to see where to move next. I had hoped it would be more beautiful scenery, but instead, it looks like the Green Hornet flashing by on a bicycle, helmet on, head bent low.rofl

I can't seem to move my pictures from my profile over to these postings. You'd have to see it there.

I'm not an artist. Hell, I can't even put two lines together.

But my ex g/f is an artist. She works with acrylic paints most of the time. She has painted on everything from wood to glass. She just recently ( over the Summer ) painted a mural on the outside of someone's house.

She has a website at www.christysartwork.com

In between adding a few mountains, valleys, and pine trees to my current oil on wood, I have been reading Lex's first book, "Moving Day" I have only had it two day. I couldn't put it down last night when it was time for me to go to bed. . Don't let the cry face deter you into thinking it is a sad book. Far from that. I felt as if I was the person in the misplaced house and on one 'far out' adventure.  to you Lex. This has been yet another reason why joining mingle2 has been so rewarding.

Thank you! Comments like yours make the whole thing worthwhile!

And -- trust me -- it gets a lot stranger as you get farther along in the storyline....

Linda there are an abundance of talented people located here on the site, some are just more vocal than others lol some keep lower profiles than others too and for valid reasons.

It is great that you found some inspiration to unleash your creativity and get the brushes moving.

You can get a free site at www.photobucket.com and add your .jpgs or other pictures and upload them there to share them.

You can also get a free website over at www.etsy.com which is a site dedicated to artists.

I usually find my inspiration at http://www.sothebys.com/ or walk through gallery tours because it goes into the artist history of a piece in most cases. Or just getting out in nature and walking...

Maybe you were meant to flow into abstract?? I know people who would pay for Green Hornet stuff lol:tongue:

Best Wishes and Happy Painting Linda!
