You are also relying on a "dealer" to give you a "quality product" unless you grow your own. What if it has been laced with some other drug?? There are lots of unknowns. ohwell huh

I worry about my 9 y/o granddaughter getting curious about drugs as she gets a little older and then her 5 y/o brother behind her. explode

As a parent, I understand your concern.

As much as I support med use and i'm on the fence with legalization, I also understand the serious concerns parents have with this.

My parents found out I was smoking pot in highschool, made my mom cry (made me feel like complete crap).

All I can say is that I think it's important to be honest with the kids when they're old enough to understand. I grew up with the just say no thing, but after I tried pot the first time and it didn't make me a junkie I did wonder about whether the things people said about harder drugs was true or not. I guess I was lucky since those drugs really weren't around my school so I didn't experiment with them. By the time I got into college, I still smoked pot, I tried shrooms as well but I just didn't want to experiment further.

guess what JUST happened....

my niece is 18 and nephew is 15. my nephew has a friend his age. all the friends are friends with my son, niece and nephew. well tonight the boy's dad asked my niece if she would take him on a quick errand since his car wasn't running. after the errand and when she was dropping him at home, he told my niece what the errand was....a pot run. my niece doesn't drink, smoke or do any drugs.

THAT ALONE made me IRATE.

come to find out...he smokes with his 15 yr old son and even shared with my nephew that other day. my nephew was spending the night over there and as SOON as we found out....my brother in law went to get my nephew and drag him back home (they live in the same neighborhood as the friend)

I told my sister, if that was my son....that kid wouldn't be allowed back and the dad would be in jail.

who does this adult think he is...bad enough to smoke with HIS 15 yr old, but to give it to my 15 yr old nephew AND con my niece (who is very naive anyway) into a drug run????

my niece is 18 and as of right now...still shaking because she went on a drug run without knowing it and knows if they got busted...she would have gone to jail. she would have to press charges. but as far as my nephew...not only would I call the cops but CPS too

she just told me that she had been told that a friend was paying back money he owed that dad and it was to get his car fixed

I better not find out where they live or who the dad is

as far as kids go....I still (and will never) get that line of reasoning. yes there are worse things....but that isn't an excuse. pot isn't good for kids either....so why let them do any of that?

I agree with you. I don't understand the parents who think it is cool to smoke with their kids. They have obviously never had a kid get in trouble with drugs and have to bail them out and try to clean up their lives, put them through rehab, deal with all the expense and legal, mental health issues, etc. That dad should be shot or at least a tire iron up-side his head, frigging idiot!!! That 18 y/o girl could be in jail with a drug conviction on her record for life for "driving him on an errand." He obviously doesn't give a damn about his own kid's future, let alone anyone else's kids. So sorry this happened to your niece and nephew. flowerforyou flowerforyou

I would have been on the war-path myself. grumble explode

I worked in the prison system for 17 years and part of that time was a notary. During my last 4-1/2 years was a Superintendent Secretary in a co-ed prerelease and I ended up notarizing paperwork for these inmates (women) signing away rights to their kids, (giving them up for adoption). Maybe 30-40% of them went to family members but the rest were just signed over to the state foster system to try to place and adopt out and can you GUESS what these women were in prison for??? DRUGS!!!! Of course. The drugs destroyed their lives, broke up their families, made these kids "motherless" and some of them may still be bouncing around the foster system, who knows. Some of them cried their eyes out when they signed the papers, others were just cold as steel. Sorry, I don't like drugs of any type. Everybody says pot is good, will never convince me. The only good use I see for pot is for people on chemotherapy, it has been proven to help them with their pain and nausea, other than that, I will never believe that drugs are good. I also don't like alcohol, don't smoke either, so guess I am just plain boring and dull, sorry. ohwell

not dull...that's how you feel. I smoke cigarettes and occasionally drink....my point is...if adults want to do things then they accept the consequences of it....but not kids. I wouldn't give my kid cigarettes or alcohol or pot. he is 18 now and can legally smoke (knowing the risks because I drilled that into him) but he also knows what's legal and not. he also knows when he is 21....PI and DUI can ruin lives....
