You just found out that your child is smoking pot. What do you do? She just better hope the cops find her first. Kids are inquisitive and will try things out of peer pressure It doesn't make them bad kids ~ they just need supervision and oversight & wisdom & they need the knowledge that someone is going to love them & be there for them...no matter what... It is very important to keep the doors of communication open always then the Children will not have secrets from their parents If we play gestapo to them, we will lose them for sure I still think it is much better to be our kid's friend than playing police with them... My three children are grown & they turned out just fine so I have a lot experience completely backing my opinions |

I would rather be a parent than my son's friend. he comes to me with problems because he knows I love him no matter what. But if a child tries it...that doesn't mean you stop loving them but doesn't mean you should condone it either IMO

Captain Jon, I've known you & Eileen for some time now...
I love and respect you both like extended family & I know that you have the same love & respect for me too we are trying to do what is right in life & for our children , & hopefully everyone else here is doing the same thing My children are way older than some of yours who comment here and my Grandchildren are as old as some of your children I will always be a Parent to them ...& a Grandparent that is instinctual & undeniable and has been there since their births but part of being a parent is to also be a friend with love and compassion & wisdom & understanding I think the bond we have with our children is the strongest of all I didn't give birth to them to play hard ball & gestapo I have been strict enough with them that they are not spoiled the twig is bent the tree is inclined ... if a parent doesn't stray too far off the deep end the kids usually follow that path just fine |

I'm in my son's life and always have been. you can be in their lives without condoning something illegal A very good responsible person can be very much in their children 's & grandchildren's lives too and still advocate the reintroduction of a very helpful valuable multi purpose crop that was very legal for many many years and is legal now for me and many other people who seek it as medicine and it was so fraudulentally & maliciously & soooo unscrupulously made illegal back in the 1940's after the United States was regularly paying people to grow it in the world wars..... to supply all the lumber & paper & cloth they needed to help build their ships and to make so many other things on board their vessels.... |

my point is and has been....like it or not...it's illegal (unless it's given by doctors in certain states) so if someone wants to do it....go for it. I just don't want to hear complaining if you get busted. as far as kids go...no I won't condone breaking the law. if a parent gets busted for allowing the child to smoke...then they can own up to the consequences as well. more than likely child welfare would get involved and IMO it's not worth it

When I found out my son was smoking pot, I sat him down and talk to him about, explained that I was not happy about, that he was not going to do it in or around our home, that is he was picked up by the police for any reason, not to call me because he was on his own. Then I explained to him that I smoked pot a couple of time, it made me hungry and tired, I am hungry and tired for free why pay for it, and that I had no smoked it over 16 years, I wasn't going to punish him for something I had done. Other than that I cant hold his hand, I cant be with him 24 hours a day, if he wants to learn the hard way, there is nothing I can do about that.
