My TV picture just went from a full picture to just a thin line. It's done this a couple of times over the past few weeks, but usually straightens itself out, but.....not this time. huh Is this somethin that can be fixed or should I just plan on canceling my cable service, 'cause I can't afford a new TV.tears

a horizontal line means the vertical scan circuit isn't working, a vertical line means the horizontal sweep circuit isn't working...you may need a TV repair

Depends on the age of your set and what brand it is... (used to work in a tv repair place)

The tuner may just need soldering... they have a tendency to get little hairline cracks in the factory soldering points.

Did it do it after it had been on for a while or just when you first turned it on? Another thing you could try unplugging it for a few minutes and then plugging it back in and turning it back on to see if it will perhaps reset itself...

Good luck

SlowHand is right...I spent several years in TV repair(before going into computer repair). If there is black on the left and right, w/a vertical line...it's most likely your "horizontal output". If there is black on the top and bottom, w/a line going left to right...it is most likely the "vertical Output".

By the time you pay for parts/repair...you could get a new TV. A new set would be the way to go. JMOwaving

Can relate to the frustration. frustrated frustrated
Hope there is a service person who could give you an estimate. Then again if you have had the set for a number of years...other options might need to be looked at.

Best of Luck to you.

Thanks everyone for your help. flowerforyou

It has done this when I first turn it on as well as after it has been on a while. The picture squeezes to just a thin line across the screen. There is no one around here that works on TVs (one of the drawbacks of living in the sticks). I've talked to some folks here who also say a new TV is probably the better option than having this one repaired. This one was used when I got it 6 years ago, It is a Sanyo...I'm thinkin' it is just it's time! For now, my neighbor is letting use her 10 inch set (gonna have move my recliner closer to the set!noway)

(((Robin)))flowerforyou I bet that if you looked on your local Craigslist under "free", you might find one someone's giving away. There's also a site called "Freecycle".

I hate that your set's out because I have a perfectly good one I'd give you, if you only lived close enough.ohwell

Geeze, you stole my answers...every last one of them! From Craigslist, to freecycle, to offering her a tv I wasn't using.

flowerforyou Too bad you live so far from me hon, I have a second tv I would give to you. But you could try Craig's list. Sometimes people give them away as long as you have a way to pick them up. I've seen 50" tv's free that work. They just want them gone. Good luck....

Wow! You guys are amazing! flowers

Thanks so much for the offer of the TVs! I am going to check out Craig's List and I'm already a member of Freecycle in my area. My problem is getting it picked up.

Thanks again, everyone, your generousity truly touched me.flowerforyou
