well i guess i just had to reply to this one
 buttons are cool its a good thing she said, yes that is an old fashoned term..it was a compliment. buttons used to be really cool everyone used to collect them

The phrase comes from before my great-grandparents' era, before plastic was invented, and buttons were replacing buckles and ties as fasteners on clothing. Buttons were of die-cast metal or glass, and were quite colorful (cute), ornate, expensive, etc. EXACTLY!!! These younguns wouldn't know that!! Oh, the buttons my grandma and mom had!!! Crystals, leather, cloth, bakelite, pearls, etc. |

well... no one asked me... but I do happen to know the origin of the phrase ....cute as a button...it actually has nothing to do with a button as in a button on a shirt... the button quail is a very small gray super fluffy squishy looking..cute if you will.. bird. people used to say cute as a button... meaning...cute as a button quail...b/c the bird was considered so adorable... THAT is where it comes from. get it?  thanks, i’m here til thursday... tip your servers.
PLUS I gotten cute as a bugs ear... now WTH is that? I got it twice by two different men... 
One of my cat's name's is Buttons... not bc she is cute but she has a orange spot on her head that looks like a button... we say it's where God blessed her with his Kiss... he he

Don't know, but why do they call them belly buttons, when most of them are innies, and can't be put through a buttonhole? I think they should be called belly holes myself!!
