I respected my parents out of respect. The only time I was afraid was when they pulled out the big-brown-thick-leather belt. My brother, sister, and my worst nightmare as a child if we were bad. scared

I was a child in the 60s. Far different than the 70's or 80s. Therefore for myself and many other kids of that time we obeyed out of fear.

Both.....

Pretty much the same with the way I deal with subordinate employees at work.

"You will obey me because you love me, you will obey me because you respect me, or you will obey me because you fear me....but, one way or the other...you will obey me."

Quoted from my father.

I swear to God that it works.

Precisely. And, once in a while, a good swift kick in the rear.

I was obedient out of fear for disappointment...anger passes and injuries heal, but when someone looses faith in you thats the worst, so in turn more of a respect thing, the older I got the more I learned to behave out of respect, provided respect is mutually given...i was and still am one to question the motives and directive of others

Neather.

I did what I wanted when I wanted from the time I can remember.

My parents gave up an me when I was really young.

They just figured that I wasn't going to listen anyways.

My answer exactly.

My dad had a saying
You had better respect your elders and if you don't you had better pretend well enough I believe you.

Well, fear of course
What else can you do when your mother says, " I brought you into this world and I can take you out."devil

You got that right.

I raised my daughters that obedience was better than righteousness: they could get into trouble for doing wrong and I'd be on their side, but if they disobeyed me, there was no one on their side.

Spent 40 years trying to get away from my parents. They moved next door to me. I gave up. Sheesh!
